The Duck confit is considered one of the finest French dishes and its mastery can always demonstrate the skills of the Chef of a French restaurant. However, this "restaurant special" left me wondering if the Chef knew how to cook at all. A duck confit is supposed to have meat fall off the bone through its many hours of simmering... More

I really wanted to like this place. cute restaurant hidden in the heart of the action. the service was friendly as long as we were able to get their attention. this was our least favorite meal in montreal by far. even the dessert left something to be desired. you can do better.

Cozy, friendly and hip. Staff was excellent and the meal over the top. Price was about 240 CAD but worth it. A must if you are in Old Montreal

This was the first meal enjoyed during a first-time visit to Montreal on the recommendation of a local friend. The ambiance is great--kind of a rustic, sexy-chic lodge. Very warm and cozy. We made a reservation and were seated immediately. They took our coats, so we were not crowded at the table. We shared multiple dishes, loved everything, and enjoyed... More

We booked dinner for a winter Saturday evening here. We were seated promptly, and found the drink menu to be reasonably diverse. Wines by the glass are limited but there is a broader selection by the bottle. The menu was somewhat limited, but this is to be expected at a farm to table venue. We found the best salad excellent,... More

My wife and I went to the l'Orignal with another couple for a meal before going to a play at the Centaur Theatre. My wife checked the menu on the restaurant's website beforehand & wasn't particularly thrilled with the "gaminess" offered on the menu but relented since the restaurant was close to the Centaur & our friends had already made... Unexpectedly delightful! Fantastic service, delicious food...the venison Shanks were fantastic! Ambiance and warmth of this treasure worth seeking out! Romantic spontaneous dance post dinner won over our service team, two of whom joined us for celebratory shots for my husband's 65th birthday.

My parents and I went for dinner at L'Orignal while in Montreal. The service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious! The highlight was probably the dessert of sticky toffee pudding but everything we ate was wonderful. I liked the eclectic mix of dishes - everyone's dinner "plate" was unique and fit with what we ordered. Travis is so... More

L'Orignal is a delightful dining experience. Cozy / warm / romantic atmosphere, complimented by wonderful food and exceptional service. Electric offerings included stuffed rabbit that was simply exquisite. One of the best restaurants in Old Montreal!

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
