The food was OK and the prices very low. Very basic interior. So an all right place for an informal lunch. The service was now at all welcoming.

I've tried all the restaurants on Indian Row on Jean-Talon and a few others around town, and to my mind—I was born in Calcutta and lived there for ten years and then ate Indian food in perhaps its most plentiful location outside India namely the...UK, over several years, and also dined many times in San Francisco and the surrounding areas over twelve years, so I rather think I know my Indian food—Lakshana's is the best takeout Indian food in Montreal (I've never eaten there actually in the restaurant). I also happen to like my Indian extra-spicy, so was interested to see how Lakshana's dealt with this unusual request (Indian restaurants usually ignore my request and only add a small amount of chilie paste or some such). I ordered three chicken dishes: Chilli Garlic Chicken Chukka; Chicken Tikka and lastly the Chettinad chicken curry—indeed, all the chicken dishes offered except Butter Chicken, which I always find is too sweet. With these, I ordered four Jeera rices, as I always run out of rice before the curry, and four garlic naans. This all came to around $85, which I thought a little steep—until I saw the amounts. There is only one restaurant in Montreal that I would rate above Lakshana's, and that would be Devi, on Crescenet St. Devi's food is superb in every way, but it comes at a stiff price: for the sheer amount of food you get, I'd say that Devi costs twice Lakshana's. And lucky for me, Lakshana's is in walking distance! The amount of food that I received will keep me eating Lakshana's for at least two weeks, although I'll have to go back to get some more of their superb garlic naan. PS please beware: many Indian restaurants in Montreal are selling what they call Basmati rice but which is actually the much cheaper—and tasteless—Patna rice. You should ask upfront if their rice really is Basmati . . . most people can't tell the difference, but that's because they don't know what to look for—Basmati actually has a pronounced nutty small and taste, from being dry aged. Patna is a cheap, non-aged alternative. I will most definitely be making Lakshana's my new go-to Indian.More
Located on Cote des Neiges near Jewish General Hospital and not far from U Montreal. I saw good reviews so went for lunch with colleagues. We were the only table there on a Thursday at 1pm. Limited selection for lunch special, either chicken or lamb....We tried both, along with Samosa and pakora apps. The apps were decent, but main plate not so good. The lamb was rather tough, clearly a pretty cheap cut. Butter chicken ok, but nothing special. Small salad of onions and cucumbers that weren't super fresh. Sorry, but there have been better Indian in the JGH neighborhood (although they don't seem to stay open long).More
BEST lamb curry I’ve ever had. SO tender! everything on my plate lunch was tasty and fresh. lassi was nothing special but i walked out happy anyway :)
Wanting to meet a friend close the Jewish hospital, i chose this restaurant and am glad I did. Its decor is not much but it is very clean. The lentil soup was excellent, very tasty. I would definitely order it again. The masala dosa was...also very good,. I have eaten quite a few when in India and it brought back good memories, While the dish itself is not spicy, the chutneys and sauces served with it can help bring the heat up quite a bit if so you wish. Definitely worth a second visit.More

We had a lunch with family and friends at Lakshana's, and I am planning to return for dinner soon! The restaurant has been renovated recently, and it is bright and immaculately clean. Staff is friendly, the menu is huge and features many of the South...Indian favorites that we have devoured on our travels in India, such as dosas, biryanis, idlis etc. The curry menu is equally delicious, and the portions generous. They also have plenty of choices for vegetarians. Lakshana is excellent value for money, and the fact that you can bring your own wine makes it our favorite!More
Good food, but much louder than it used to be. Have to scream to hear my friends. The music needs to be turned down or I don't think I can stand to eat here again
Another place we tried for lunch in the area. The lunch special is a nice meal with four choices ,Curry chicken,Butter chicken ,Lamb or Beef? The Thali meal is 9$ and well worth it.It comes with Tandori chicken ,spicy vegetables in sauce, salad and a huge helping...of white rice,,naan bread your choice from the four selections and a sweet dessert ball ..You can also order from the main menu which has meat, shrimp chicken or vegetarian meals.there is something for everyone to try.It was so good I went back a second time in the same week. Will be eating here often.Service was very good and fast.More

I've come around 4 times to this restaurant and I've never been disappointed. The food is good and the ambiance is good too. I even invited colleagues to come for a lunch and everybody was satisfied. My favorite is lamb biryani. Pretty good and tasty....And original too, I believe it's a family owned restaurant.
