This lil gem stands out on it's own on Richmond and Church! The food here is amazing!...just the right amount of spicy flavors to get your taste buds dancing! Upstairs has live music and can get busy pretty quickly so try to make a reservation if not just hang out downstairs and enjoy yourself with great food and drinks. Peter... More

My husband and I visited Harlem's for my birthday dinner. We had been wanting to try it out for some time. We sat upstairs as there was entertainment. There are not a lot of tables upstairs, not sure about on the main level. Our drink orders were taken right away, and I had a Caesar that was more of a... More

The food I experienced at Harlem was below par. I was actually quite surprised that the reviews are good because I was very underwhelmed. It appeared like it was a disservice to go knowing that they would be closing their doors soon The only saving grace was the server, Andrea, I think? She made everything okay so I really hope... First time eating at this restaurant. Went during winterlicious. The menu had good variety. The food was good. Service was fair, however the two waitstaff working were certainly doing their best to keep up with the turnover. Would recommend for a brunch.

My husband and I were downtown to attend a photography exhibit, and wanted somewhere different to eat. We stopped to have a tea and check out restaurants online. Based on what I saw I suggested Harlem to my husband and once taking a look, he agreed we should give it a try. When we arrived and looked out the record/menu,... More

I love the food here. BBQ'd fried chicken, jerk chicken, catfish fish n chips. corn bread, candied plantain (my favourite). Quaint little place that is nice and cozy but nit too small. However, they always seem to just have one staff member in the dining area, so service is really slow. Good service, but slow. I work nearby and go... More

This Afro-Caribbean restaurant was close to the Met which we were going for an event so hence the choice. Warm venue (and I mean warm, good place on a chilly day) and friendly staff. Very attentive. Reasonably priced beverages. Interesting menu we tried glazed short ribs, collard greens and I had rice/peas hubby had mac n cheese. Very good with... More

My boyfriend and I went to Harlem for dinner and it was really good. I had the fried chicken with mac and cheese. Both were delicious, crispy and juicy fried chicken, nice gravy and hot sauce on the side, collard greens, and an amazingly cheesy mac and cheese. The staff was friendly and service was really quick, it wasn't super... More

This is not just a great place to eat, it's a great place to be. The staff were prompt, friendly and keen to enjoy the evening with us. The drinks were exceptional and we struck up a fun rapport. The food was nothing short of authentic Caribbean. You can alter the drinks and the food for nonstandard taste but the... More

Stumbled across this place and was so glad I did! The restaurant is really cozy and comfortable, they had great music a lot of hip-hop and R&B. I had the fried chicken, probably the best I have ever tasted, with mac & cheese on the side. The waitress was nice, they had a house made spicy mango sauce and she... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
