We visited The Big Ragu early evening on a Monday. It was a quiet night, and we were greeted by Johnny the owner and master chef. We started with an appetizer of gnocchi in a delicious red sauce, which was the best we have ever experienced. Our entrees: my wife had a veal chop.with a side of pasta, and I... More

A cozy spot with a reasonably-priced fare. A good wine selection too to compliment the bold Italian flavours of the pasta.

I was here a couple of times a few years ago and was impressed with food and the service. On a whim I returned on a Sunday night for dinner. A few years ago the place was packed. This time we were the only ones in the restaurant...what happened? The food is still quite good and the service was great;... More

Arrived early for dinner. Good thing as it got packed so it's apparently popular. Small space. Atmosphere was cozy and pleasant until the busier hours came. Salads were very good. Chicken was mediocre and a small piece. Osso bucco was amazing. Service was not great. Waitress was rather inattentive to our table throughout most of our meal. Took too long.... More

went there for our second time the other night, and it was absolutely delicious! The owner runs the place, and does all the serving, pretty sure they are his recipe's that are being cook in the back. the specials change quite often bringing in new tastes and new options regularly, while retaining the delicious Italian food they are known for.... IF you're looking for a posh restaurant this isn't the one for you. However I have now been to the Big Ragu three times and each time I was so satisfied with the culinary flavours and the charming welcome and service ! We shared the magic mushroom salad - one of the best salads I have ever had in my... More

I absolutely LOVE this restaurant. Johnny the owner and chef has accommodated many a party for me which included family and friends. We are always treated with warmth, generosity and respect. The menu choices make it hard to decide what to eat and they are all so inviting. The food is prepared fresh, delicious and generous in portions. The restaurant... More

I just was to say that I absolutely love this Restaurant. The owner John makes all of his pasta fresh. All of his ingredients are fresh and top quality. The atmosphere is great and I will continue going back to this establishment. Prices were great for the quality of food and servings

I recently bought a Groupon for the Big Ragu and was excited to try some good Italian food. We ordered an antipasto platter that was very small and only had 3 items??? Not a good value for $18??? Both my boyfriend and I ordered the beef tenderloin only to be told that it was not available and had to substitute... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
The go-to area for new business start-ups, the spry and creative persona of the West End thrives along its streets. Its independent boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and shops offer brands that can't be found elsewhere. Buildings with ground floor consumer spaces sport up-top artist's lofts, and the West End attracts artists, designers, and fashion industry professionals to its living quarters. It is in the cross-hairs of gentrification, but still resisting it with ironic relish. Hot deals can still be found here on furniture and knick-knacks,. Its call to culinary glory is in its well-priced homemade Polish food, hosting Toronto's go-to spots for hot pierogis and cold borscht. High Park, the largest green space in the city, is a place for dreamers and poets to wander and rest, not to mention a number of energetic actors staging outdoor plays in the summertime.
