Great live music. It was awesome! Got tired of shopping and felt like doing something different on my holiday. The Rex had a great band about to start. Unpretentious place with great music. Loads of people have it the right vibe. All at 4pm Saturday aft'n! It was the weekend...why not...?

We ate our dinner here when we stayed for two nights. It was great. There was music while we ate and they even did up some fish and chips for us to bring up to our room when we got in late one night. The club sandwich is great too.

I had lunch with my gf as soon as we arrived in Toronto, and had the chance to spend a couple of hours listening to a blues and a jazz bands. The sandwiches we got were alright, and the beer was cool. Staff is kind and polite, and we almost had to wait no time to be served food and... More

While the music was good, the bartender demanded a tip for pulling a pint, asking us where we were from telling us "it was the Canadian way". Later the waitress was argumentative and confrontational after making an error with our bill. Eventually, it was resolved and there was a half hearted apology. The music is the only draw to this... Front door man was helpful and saw we were American and took us to the bar to pay the cover charge with credit card. Server was aloof and not friendly. Not sure why... perhaps because we had 2 underage kids with us who were Drinking water??

A friend who had been to Toronto recommended a visit to The Rex as they had "great beer, burgers and Jazz". The Jazz certainly was good and there was a definite loyal local crowd in as well, even on the Sunday afternoon we decided to visit. When we arrived we took a seat and as there was no sign of... We enjoyed several hours of the Swing Shift Big Band at the Rex on a Saturday afternoon - it was hot out, the beers were cold, and the music was awesome. The place was super crowded but we were there long enough to grab seats after some others left (after about an hour standing - but it was worth the... More

Managed to avoid the cover by sitting on the patio, still got to enjoy the great jazz from the open doorway. Even though we were right at the time the kitchen closed they brought us food! The fries were delicious. Stella draught glass is HUGE! Enjoy :)

Staying in Queen Street and West Queen West

Neighbourhood Profile
Queen Street and West Queen West
Known as the Art & Design District, West Queen West is one of the most energetic and dynamic of Toronto's neighborhoods. Along with its great modernist museums, clubs, and restaurants, it's home to some of the funkiest specialty shops, ranging from clothing to stationary to collectables, and caters to niche and vintage shoppers of all kinds. That makes it a mecca for creatives, including hobbyists designers, writers, and painters. With ink on their hands and fabric pelts in their bags, visitors to Queen Street traverse the avant-garde blend of historic architecture and ultra-contemporary fare. Home to some of Toronto's chicest hotels and most modish java fixes, busy with street cars, and always suffused with live music drifting onto packed patios at bars and clubs by nightfall, the vibrancy of West Queen West is undeniable.
