Have been going here for 20+ years. Big bowl of hot and sour soup is a great starter for the whole table. Expect to find the place get busier after 10 pm till 1 am. Medium prices. Expect to pay $15 per person

Firstly, my wife and I are of Asian descent, I was born in Canada and my wife in Taiwan. I'm not saying that we are food experts but we definitely have a good handle on what is good and what is not. Having said that, I honestly do not know how this place has survived for so many years. If... More

Great spot for late-night eats on Spadina. Food is fresh and tasty, great value for money, and friendly, fast service.

We have been returning to Swatow Restaurant at least once a month, every month for years! We were back again today for lunch. Always yummy food at reasonable prices. We order a variety of rice dishes, noodle dishes, congee, etc. So far there hasn't been any item on the menu that we don't enjoy. Simple and modest restaurant that always satisfies!

We ordered fresh prawn dumpling soup, one with noodles and one without. Absolutely delicious. Fried tofu snack was above average - before with ginger and onions and mixed seafood with vegetables. Every dish was wonderful, but we came away with enough for another meal. The restaurant is tiny, busy, and on a main Toronto artery but well served by transit.... More

We were walking Spadina St. looking for some Asian food before going to a show. We stumbled into a lineup of Asians waiting to get a table at Swatow. We obviously joined the lineup. It didn't take long to get a table and the food started arriving very quickly. The food was good. I have had better Asian food but... More

I used to eat here during my University of Toronto days. The décor has barely changed as well as the service and food. We ordered shrimp with lobster sauce on rice, beef with black bean sauce on rice noodle, and fried wontons. The total including tax and tip was about $35. The shrimp with lobster sauce on rice tasted great... More

Order shrimp dumpling soup with noodles and brisket! Especially if it's a cold and crappy day. All soups are super yummy!

Just tried today as my brunch. I ordered the signature soup noodle which has everything including fish ball, beef ball, beef, dumpling etc. Not tasty to me. This kind of noodles in my home town is x10 times more delicious. What a waste of my quota of appetite! There are so many other choices in the city. I should have... More

Unassuming restaurant with fast efficient service serving really good and authentic Cantonese dishes. On a recent long weekend trip to Toronto we actually are here twice. Second time at midnight post Adele concert. Dumplings are amazing, duck noodle soup was very good. A few surprising ingredients in their house special noodle soup that would not be our first choice. But... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Toronto's main Chinatown has the honor of being the largest in North America. Gaping down across Dundas Street West and Spadina Avenue, the area is a wonderful medley of shops and restaurants, busy signs and bright red gates, a destination for foodie fun. Chinatown's streets are always bustling, packed with people and outdoor stalls hawking fresh produce and products. The restaurants and authentic marketplaces that shoulder in against each other display shining roast ducks and menus studded with dumplings and noodle bowls. The air is pervaded with music. different languages, and the smell of fried food and mouth-watering desserts. Chinatown's restaurants represent a broad range of fare, from traditional Szechuan and Shanghai foods, to other Asian delicacies, including some of the top Japanese, Vietnamese, and Korean spots in the city. Whether you're in the mood for a sit-down tea house or a bubble tea to go, Chinatown is the spot to enjoy an exciting walk and the promise of leaving satisfied.
