Following Trip Advisor's suggestion I decided to have dinner at Salad King. Greeted at the top of the stairs by a very kind waitress, I was helped to find my place (I was alone and did not have a reservation) in a comfortable environment with long shared tables. All food around me looked really good so it was quite difficult... More

This was my second visit here. I was actually looking forward to lunch here because I enjoyed my first meal at this restaurant a few years ago. I don't know what happened but the service and quality of food went downhill. I was very disappointed by the poor service and the mediocre "Thai" food. I will not be coming here... More

One of the main go to for Ryerson University students this popular eatery consists of a large, lively and bustling hall with long tables and individual stools so this type of set up has to be to your taste. Some tables at the front for four to six but they fill up quickly. Superb Thai dishes of all varieties including... More

Amazing Thai food, very authentic and unique place to dine. As long as you don't mind sharing your table with someone else, this is a place for you. It is not high end or place for a romantic meal but it definitely has amazing food. You get to choose your heat (spice) level. I went for 4 and love very... More

Ordered the spring rolls and chicken fried rice and it was very tasty. I had take out and waited less than 10 minutes right at dinner hour. Steaming hot with a ketchup sauce for the rice and a zippy orange dip for the spring rolls. Meal came to just over $16. Good portion size of rice and spring rolls consist... More

We have been going to Salad King for at least 20 years. Ever since it was in the basement on the side street off Yonge leading to the Ryerson campus. Spice goes from mild, medium and then 2-20 and at about 5 you better like things hot. I have only seen one person eat 20 and he regretted it later... More

The Thai food scene in Toronto has taken off lately. If you are aching for some really good Thai food, this place might not be for you. Having that said, Salad king is a fine place for a bite for run-of-the-mill Thai dishes. My favourite dish here is their golden curry which is quite tasty. Prices are cheap and you... More

I got to The Salad King restaurant most times in my life and I'm loving every minute of it going to the most affordable restaurant in the heart of Downtown Toronto. It's very affordable, always clean with the Thai theme atmosphere, and the for are exquisite. I've tried all their curried with the nice sweet aromatic flavor of coconut milk... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
