This restaurant has received mostly excellent and very good reviews, so I expected a good dinner. It was the Friday of the May 24 weekend, the staff was attentive and the atmosphere hip. But the food we ordered from the menu was blah!. The ceviche was so bland I asked for salt and pepper. My yellow fin tuna bowl was... More

Stopped by as we noticed they had a lobster pasta. The welcome was courteous and attentive. Excellent ambience. We had the lobster pasta along with their spring salad and soup of the day (black bean with pulled pork). All the dishes were excellent. We expected the lobster to be good, but the soup stole the show. It tasted exquisite and... More

I walked to the Brewery district from where I was staying on Cooperage St and found this quaint restaurant with a different flair on food. Of course they had many varieties of oysters and I began with 6 Raspberry oysters and a glass of wine. For the entre I had a Vietnamese Florida Snapper. Presentation and taste was excellent combined... More

Restaurant has a nice ambiance and is quite large. Wasn't very busy around 2pm when we arrived. Service was average and food was average as well. Had the gumbo, salmon roll sandwich and fries. Their house larger is quite nice.

My friend & I started with the 1 Dozen shucker’s special for $36 which was 3 types of Oysters. I ordered the Chopped Salad which was to die for & the best salad I have ever had. It’s a meal for 2 but I made it through. My pal had the Snapper which he loved. They have 3 in house... More

There were 4 of us in our party and we all enjoyed our meal at Pure Spirits. Although the restaurant did not appear to be very busy, we had to wait a bit for our table. We ordered a couple of appetizers for the table. I really enjoyed the mussels and my husband and our friends liked the calamari. As... More

Terrible sweet potato fries. They looked and tasted like they were sitting around for hours before being served to me. When the waiter saw that I had barely touched them, he didn't ask if there was a problem. He asked if I wanted them wrapped to take them home, I said no, and that was it.

We're always happy to make things right, Ben. Your server likely thought you were planning to take home leftovers, but had he known they weren't to your liking, he would've been happy to put in a new order for you. All that said, I apologize that your experience left something to be desired. I hope that you'll consider giving us... More

I had a large party of 11 guests. When I called them they told me they are more than happy to cater to vegetarians and gluten free options but the waitress told us that substitutions are not possible. It was unpleasant as I had 3 vegetarians in my group of friends. In addition, the service was awful, the waitress was... More

I know we responded to your other review, Shireen, but I also wanted to touch base here as well. Again, I want to apologize about the miscommunication on the phone and how we dropped the ball while you were here. Your experience with us was out of the norm and does not live up to the high standards of customer... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Pure Spirits. Seated outside we enjoyed oysters to start with and several sublime pasta dishes all recommended by the wonderful server who I believe was called Tina - she was attentive and friendly and really knew what she was talking about when it came to the food. She's an asset!

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
