Although the food is very good indeed, the real reason for eating at the Gallery Grill is that it is located in University of Toronto's Hart House, a Gothic-revival architectural gem of the very early 20th century, and overlooks through its interior windows the "Great Hall" of the building. Reserve ahead and ask for a table overlooking the Hall. Also... More

For Sunday lunch or brunch in the centre of Toronto the Gallery Grill is hard to beat. The ambience is agreeable if a bit austere; the service is friendly and competent. The biscuits are a great starter, and the maple syrup creme brulee is always good. I did think the crust of the tarte flambee was a bit tough this... More

Lovely exquisite food. Seek it out on the second floor of Hart House in the heart of Toronto's University of Toronto. Frequented by alumnae and academics........this atmospheric restaurant should really be discovered by the common folk. Worth the effort. Unfortunately this restaurant is closed over the summer months of July and August. As for a table overlooking the great hall.

This resto competes with the best of the city in terms of menu, cuisine, and fine dining. Don't be fooled by the location - University of Toronto has undergone a business renaissance and showcases its Gallery Hall fine linen to great effect. The menu and price point isn't as pretentious as Canoe; the service however seems to almost be at... More

Beautiful location inside the Hart House historical building, very peculiar. We had yuka lactes, charred octopus and house-made sorbets and they were just gorgeous . Very friendly service

Our son was having an art opening at the Hart House Gallery, it was a cold afternoon and we wanted to go for lunch close...a first time experience. OMG, atmosphere...we have expected Harry Potter here at Hogwarts Castle. Service...highly skilled, understood the complexities of the dishes, very professional with a sense of passion for the venue, a subtle humour with... More

Went for lunch and it was wonderful. The onion soup was delicious as was the gnocchi. The lovely ambiance and gorgeous architecture contributed to a truly wonderful lunch. The apple upside down cake was absolutely perfect, perfectly warmed, great for a cool December day. The service was attentive and friendly, I would highly recommend ithe a Gallery Grill to friends.

Lunch at the Gallery Grill is a familiar event for us. A late-afternoon reception to mark a retirement is not. It was held in the bar: approximately 50 people fit in comfortably. The space is very attractive and is highly suitable for to this kind of event. The hors d'oeuvres were excellent; so was the service. Highly recommended!

Everything about the Gallery Grill is special: the location, the artwork and most importantly, the food. Prices are not cheap, but this is where one goes for a special brunch. Hidden in the beautiful gothic-inspired Hart House on the University of Toronto campus, the Gallery Grill is a small beautiful room with a high vaulted ceiling. leaded glass windows and... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
