Authentic Mexican

Nice find in west Toronto . Interesting street patio. Reservations recommended since popular spot with locals. Very nice artwork to keep the conversation going. Service was average. Tacos were authentically good.

Finally, Good Value Mexican Food In Toronto!

We are used to having great Mexican food in the United States. Finally, found a great Mexican place here in Toronto! We were a bit reluctant to try this place due to the mediocre reviews on here, but we loved it! Great drinks and great...food! Loved the Mexican Street Corn! We will be back !More

Head south in winter: the Mad Mexican is crazy good.

I lived three years on the Mexican border in greater San Diego, California. Many Mexican restaurants in Canada serve either overpriced dainties that have little to do with what Mexicans eat. Others serve West Texas fatty salty slop dumbed down for bland tastes. Although the...owner may be currently a little pre-occupied with their catering and packaged foods biz, the Mad Mexican still has personality and authentic eats. I have been searching for the fish tacos I feasted on in SD and the Baja, and two I tried here were fresh, spicy and a solid B. The third, a veg mushroom taco was an A. Servers were attentive, knowledgeable, and pleast, which is never a given. I don't want perfect service, I want great service. Mexico has a great variety of local cuisines, but the basics have to come first, and this restaurant is conscientious: the tortillas were made by hand, with the right simple ingredients, consistency, texture and taste. Salsas were fresh and sweet with heat. The rice & frijoles are flavoured properly, not competing with the main dishes like red snapper. SUMMARY: The Mad Mexican is a change of pace, it takes you south in winter: the food and the whole experience live up to the pricing.More

Not as good as before

it used to be good but it is not anymore. The food is of average quality and the service is very slow. The tacos are fine but you find better ones at La Cantina on Dundas west. I used to take the steak but now...the quality is poor. The homemade salsa and guacamole are good.More

Decent margaritas , really uncomfortable chairs

Ordered the queso fundito was good, the fish taco was ok, the barbacoa was completely devoid of any flavor , was looking forward to having tres leches cake , oh my super dry also flavourless , service is so so , I don’t recommend this...place at all ... sorryMore

Not worth it

Drinks were good. Dessert was good. Everything else in between mediocre at best. Food has taken a severe nose dive. Tacos and appetizers were bland and over priced.

Terrible disappointment.

After waiting in this noisy, cavernous space for 45 minutes to get our meal, the food was quite below average. The service was scattered and extremely unprofessionally delivered. I would not recommend this restaurant, unless you are extremely hungry and everything including MacDonalds is closed....The worst restaurant experience I had in a long time!More

Nice Mexican restaurant

The good old days are gone; now mediocre Mexican

I have been frequenting this restaurant off and on for at least half a dozen years. I have returned numerous times for the Mexican flavour, in spite of questionable service. This last time, the service was improved, but I cannot vouch for a memorable Mexican...food experience. The food (torta) was bland and some of the taco shells were stale. Even the sauces and pico de gallo were uninspiring. With so many other excellent Mexican establishments in Toronto, I will be avoiding this restaurant in the future.More

Best Tacos? Not even close!

I have to say I was really disappointed! I know the brand from their store sales of chips and various dips, and had read lots of good reviews, so was looking forward to a great meal. It was an ok meal ... but just ok....The ceviche was uninspired. I had 3 tacos: lamb, tiger shrimp and mushroom. The mushroom was by far the best, but came without the cheese that I had requested. The shrimp was battered, deep fried and over cooked - more along the lines of what you'd expect from a cheap Chinese take out. The lamb was bland and tough with a huge piece of gristle. Gordon Ramsay would have thrown the plate at the chef. Knowing the owner of this establishment was an apprentice of both Mark McEwan AND Michael Standlander, I had much higher expectations than what this place delivered. With SO many excellent Mexican restaurants and taco houses in Toronto to choose from - don't waste your time on this one!More
