It was pretty noisy when we were there ...probably because it was lunchtime. We ordered a pizza, some sweet potato chips and a pad thai. As expected, the Pad Thai didn't taste as authentic of course but passable if you want something lighter.

We had visitors from France and we decided to experience something different, something Canadian! Bannock came up as an interesting option. We went for dinner with our friends and it was enjoyable. Good service, good food and friendly atmosphere. We all chose different dishes and everything was well served/presented. Personally my dish (roast duck poutine pizza apparently one of their... More

Today my husband and I went for Brunch at Bannocks. I have to say that we had one of the best brunches ever! The menu is full of innovative Canadian comfort food dishes that are flavourful and full of Canadian content. I had the SMOKED + SCRAMBLED which is house-smoked salmon, mustard greens, and scrambled eggs. My husband had FOGO... More

This is the perfect place to stop after a long day of shopping at the Eaton Centre or after work. It's in an excellent location! We went out for dinner during our night's stay in Toronto and we are glad we choose Bannock! At first we were a bit confused entering through the Bay St entrance since it looked like... More

I visited about a week ago with a friend who was visiting from out of town. It was my first time at Bannock and I was very impressed by the food and the service. It was tasty and on time and very flavourful. Enjoyed every bite. The server was very friendly and I enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere. I would love... More

Food pretty good, but had to wait a while for food, even though not that busy. Friendly and courteous staff. Decent, but not memorable.

Friendly unpretentious place for lunch. Ordered lamb shoulder, price point is good for the food served. Service was good. Will come back and will recommend to friends.

Bannock is a low-pretentiousness restaurant that emphasizes Canadian cuisine. I wasn't aware that there is such a thing as Canadian cuisine, and I didn't notice that the menu items are quintessentially Canadian (I had grilled octopus, which is not Canadian, and another item is proudly served with Heinz ketchup, which is, of course, not Canadian either)--unless you're talking about the... The Bannock restaurant, right in the heart of downtown Toronto at Bay and Queen Streets, is a must-stop if you're in the mood for a nice, hearty meal that bills itself as Canadian Comfort food. Besides learning a bit about the lingo ("Peameal" = bacon - now y'know), we ate there three times during a five-day stay (we were at... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
