Found the food outstanding, service impeccable. Nice cozy place, love the old school feel. Love the service, old school waiters with a great knowledge of the food and the wine.

Everything about this restaurant was great from the courteous and cheerful greeting which right away made you feel like a guest to the end of a leisurely and relaxed paced meal. At no time was there any pressure to order right away and the fresh baguette with olive oil was really good. The homemade soup special was well received and... More

I went here for New Year's Eve with 3 friends. I'll admit- I have walked by this restaurant over and over in the past few years but never thought to go in. My friend picked this place so I thought that this was finally the time to try it out, and seeing the outstanding reviews and rating on Trip Advisor,... More

The weekend of my son's wedding in December, he arranged for both sets of parents to have dinner with he and his fiance at a lovely Carisma. It was the busy Christmas season and there was a large party there as well. When we arrived, the staff immediately treated us like family. They made us feel very welcome and took... More

Nothing is poor here. Why would anyone write that? Other than a deplorable person. Diners should applaud a restaurant like this as they are going by the way side. This old school dining like it should be. True hospitality in a beautiful setting. Worthy of six stars. Service is outstanding and the food the same. Owners and staff working hard... More

We love Italian. This meal was to be a chance to catch up with friends we hadn't seen in some time, and who also like Italian fare. Once we were seated and had ordered drinks, and just nicely getting going with catch-up, our server came by with menus. We wanted to enjoy our drinks and the socializing, so didn't bother... More

We chose carisma for the Italian food and wine...and were not disappointed. Our waiter was from the Veneto region where we had travelled earlier in the year and helped us find a wine we had enjoyed there. We started with The Insalata di Funghi and the Capesante con Funghi. Both were delicious. We then had the Vitello al Porcini and... More

Carisma was the choice of our friends, and it turned out to be a very good one. We all started with a cheese appetizer: buffalo mozzarella which was good although I have had smoother, richer tasting ones. A dribble of balsamic at the side and a few tomatoes accompanied it. I wish I had waited to dip my slice of... More

Went here for an office Christmas party. Had very high hopes based on previous reviews. Unfortunately it may have been an off day for them. Although many of our appetizers were delicious, the mains left room for improvement. The ravioli was dry, the gnocchi although very light lacked flavor, and a few cuts of meat and seafood were charred from... More

We travel to Italy once or twice a year, have dined in 27 Italian cities. This place is the closest to authentic Italian dining that we've found in Toronto. Welcoming staff, attentive. Their bread is just amazing (if you're going to splurge on carbs, eat this bread!) Best grilled calamari we've had. Gnocchi were fluffy pillows of deliciousness (I asked... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
