Visited Caplansky's with a friend for a Thursday lunch. We each had the Reuben which was tasty, although if had to be critical the bread was a bit soggy on one side. Service was nothing special. One portion of fries is huge and enough to share. I would recommend as the sandwich was very tasty and I'd like to try... More

Nothing special here.On the advice of a friend, I went for lunch.Very blah.Restaurant wasn't in a clean condition when I was there.Food was below the quality then what I expected for the price paid.Mens restroom was very unsanitary at the time of my visit.I don't recommend this deli.

Loved the OLD Deli's of Toronto, but all but a few are gone. Caplanskys has some wonderful briskets, Smoked meat, pastrami, all excellent, but he has NEW product that is fresh and exciting to add to the old world foods. They are all yummy, so if your going for a walk in Kensington market and feel like a break, Caplanskys... More

Five of us went for breakfast and for the most part the food was pretty good but not great. The best part of the meal were the blintzes that we had with blueberry sauce. I ordered the classic breakfast and the eggs over easy but these were overcooked and rather hard and the potato latkes were also overcooked. The beef... More

Casual diner type of layout. Service was great. Food ... not so great. Had the smoked meat, medium fat & found it tough, sliced too thick. French fries were good but they brought them out before the sandwiches. I would have preferred them together. Had the latkes (potato pancakes) & they were so so. Not sure of the flavourings used.... Definitely has a US/classic Jewish Deli vibe, with house smoked meat sandwiches piled pretty high, almost knife and fork, can't use your hands, high. Also high, are the prices. Too pricey for me to consistently visit, but I guess great quality food does cost more, but I still wish it were less expensive, for sure.

OMG this place is amazing. The food, more importantly the smoked meat, is to die for. Plus, who doesn't love getting a pickle with their beer! Make the time to visit as you will not regret it.

The place was packed on a Saturday afternoon, but the person at the front found us a table for 2 in about 20 seconds, super friendly. Had to wait a little but for our waiter to take our order, but they were super busy so no worries. I had the smoked meat sandwich with a craft beer, my daughter had... More

We had heard how good this place was and it didn't disappoint. Reuben sandwich was brilliant....only thing I would ask for is espresso coffee.

I ordered an omelet and coffee. Both were very good. They made a mistake on the omelet so I sent it back they came back and gave me another omelet no questions asked and were attentive with the coffee. My only negative is they did not have HP sauce which I thought would be a Canadian staple.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
