Always keep an eye on what's happening at The Carlton. They get some of the best music performers from all over Canada. The atmosphere is intimate for music and no matter where you sit you are never far from the stage. The food is often very good for the price.

Best bar in town to hear live music. Great service, excellent selection of wine, beer & cocktails, and great food--delicious, large portions. Have dinner and drinks and stay for the music; shows usually start at 8pm.

This is a spot of much energy collected over the years with many bands and musicians. Sadly the construction around the venue has accelerated its possible demise. In fairness a landmark of long duration may be no more at least as it was.

We went to see David Myles and Classified and we were not disappointed! They were funny, talented, probably the best show I have ever seen. The opening act (Elijah) was incredible, didn't want him to leave the stage. The venue is an amazing place for live music and to see these talented artists at that venue was a dream come... More

Friday night so it was busy. Very narrow bar, small and crowded. Thought the band would be rock or alternative... They were "hip hop". First hip hop band I heard that had not a single lyric to any of their songs. (Their drummer was really good though.) The bar itself, I wouldn't return; especially with so many other options on... Visiting family in Halifax between Sept 6th and Sept 11th. My brother's niece, Taryn Dene was singing there on Thursday September 8th 2016. To our surprise, Don Amero, folk singer, was opening the evening. He was nominated for 2 Juno this year. He is an excellent story teller which was very good at introducing each one of his songs. Taryn... More

We went to the Carleton from a recommendation. Elise Desler was singing promoting her second cd and she was celebrating her 40th birthday next week. The crowd was festive and we enjoyed her songs. The bar itself is near the waterfront. An easy walk from the nearby hotels. The waitress was attentive despite a packed bar. Outside seating. We thought... More

The Carlton is a great place to listen to live music. The acoustics are wonderful and the atmosphere is intimate. The audience was quiet and respectful of the musicians. The food, on the other hand, was awful. The pasta was served in basically a soup of cream sauce. I hear the french fries are great. Maybe I just won't eat... More

We went there for a night of live music, knowing we were going to see a cover a classic Neil Young album. Our server seemed uninterested in our table, when we did get our drinks, they were watered down. We ordered mushroom bruschetta and calamari. The bruschetta was delicious, but the calamari was overlooked and the dips tasted like it... More
