I recently went to lebistro by Liz in Halifax. I was recommended by a friend to go, so I made a reso for my mom's birthday. Upon arriving, the lady at the front ignored us and proceeded to respond to the incoming phone calls instead...of attending us, which I thought was a little rude. We sat, placed our orders (which we knew in advance ordering 2 apps, 2 entrees, and a kids meal for my daughter to start). They brought bread out which was good. Then the waitress came to take our plates and the after piling them and grabbing them with her hands (which I had watched her take other dirty plates right before us) and then put them right back down saying "oh yeah you guys will need these for your apps". My mom mentioned this was unsanitary, especially with covid going on. We said. nothing and waited. The apps came out which were fine, we ordered calamari and zucchini fries. The zucchini came with a curry sauce which my mom and put some on our plates to dip, so we wouldn't "double dip". The server came back to remove the dishes and rudely commented "oh looks like the curry sauce got a little out of hand!" as she took my mom's plate making her feel bad. It was insulting, almost as to say we were messy? Keep in mind its my mom's birthday, which they were aware of because I had called in ahead of time to let them know about her special day. When our entrees came, my daughter's grilled cheese was completed charred and burned on the edges and so she ate from just the middle. My mom and I had ordered the same, Assuming this would be a nice creamy dish, with the creamed mashed potatoes and scallops. I took a big bite only to crunch my teeth on what felt like a bone. I took it out of my mouth as the server was coming by to see how the food was. I showed her the hard piece that was from my dish and she took it of my hand with her finger and said "oh, ill take this to the kitchen". The lady from the front desk who ignored us originally, came over to our table and loudly announced that it was only a piece of shell from the scallops and that it was normal. I was mortified as I felt like the entire restaurant was staring at us. Later, the server came back to ask about desserts and I had to remind her of the birthday dessert that was offered to us when I booked the reservation. She came back with the dessert and it was not like the experience my friend had (she told me she had 3 staff come out for hers and sing happy birthday). Our experience was not like that, but cold and curt. When I asked for the bill, the lady from the front came back with her "loud voice" again and with a card saying "here's a free dessert for when you come and eat here next time!" thinking this was a remedy to the "shell" that was in my $30 entree. They did not discount anything from the bill, and instead embarrassed us. I paid and left a tip for the server (which I really shouldn't have) and left the card (which was more of an insult than anything). I will NOT be returning to this restaurant EVER.More
