We had a reservation for 4 at 7 pm. Were greeted by hors d'oeuvres at the front and seated very promptly. Loved the look of the place; enjoyed the live music. Lots to choose from on the menu, including vegan and vegetarian options. We all enjoyed the food very much, and the service was excellent.

My Vancouver friends took me her for a weekday lunch, and I'm so pleased they did! The food is a fushion of Afghan, Indian and Pakistani (sorry if I've forgotten anyone!). We started with a Chai, we all chose a different one, then proceeded to share an appetiser, then enjoying a main. The chai was spicy and delicious. The shared... More

Came here for a birthday party and we were told there would be gratuities added on for groups of 8 or more. When the bill came, suddenly it was 6 or more. Also additional charge for live music after 5:30pm. Food was pretty good but the wait was long. Asking for a take out box probably took longer than eating... More

Good atmosphere, good live music, great selection of food. You have the option to taste various items of the menu with the Chai Feast. Highly recommended to get a good taste of the Middle East and Indian culinary.

It's a fantastic place to celebrate birthdays with family. I totally recommend it even with toddlers. They have live music as well. Food was so tasty. Their chai feast is a great choice to try different dishes. Their seasonal fish dish was incredible. Loved their Persian salad. Don't forget their chocolate pudding. It cost us $240 for 4 adults &... As a long time customer, it was a shock when veteran servers and managers were summarily dismissed. The new manager watches everyone like a hawk and isn't approachable; thus the entire atmosphere at East is East has become tense and unwelcoming. I feel that they no longer treat loyal and long time customers well. I certainly miss the old East... More

Firstly, the decor is striking. Very different from other restaurants - has a special Eastern feel right away. The chai freebie was really lovely. We ordered the all you can eat and it really was fabulous value. Tasty, plentiful and authentic. A great dinner out. The music hadn't started when we left as we ate early. Definitely book to get... We tried this location last night and was pleasantly surprised to see that they have Live Music performances. I highly recommend calling in advance for a reservation. Although we got a seat close to the stage, the bench-like seats around the perimeter of the room looked way more comfortable. Food was excellent and of course, so was the Chai!

Staying in South Main

Neighbourhood Profile
South Main
South Main, or SoMa, is a neighbourhood in upswing. Inhabited by young humanitarian professionals in converted lofts and studio apartments, what was once an industrial centre is now a wellspring of vintage and eco fashion shops, contemporary sawdust-floor galleries, craft beer joints, and basement acting studios. All set to an Art Deco background with a strong blue collar sensibility underpinning each new pop-up and foodie trend, SoMa is on the rise.
