Ate here and ordered the tom yum soup, crying tiger with pineapple rice and noodles. Lo and behold there was a fly in the soup. No one apologized nor offered any explanation. It was like it did not happen. When I brought it to the attention of our server, she did not say anything to us. We changed our order... More

We stopped by for dinner on a Friday night. There were 2 people waiting in front of us. There were at least 4 empty tables ready to go - but we were told there would be a 45 minute wait. Upon checking the tables there were no reservation signs on the tables. Something felt "wrong". We didn't stay.

Sawasdee has been a favourite in Vancouver for years. They have amazing service...great hospitality. Everything they serve is so good. There is usually a line up, so reservations are recommend. But, if you do wait in line it is so worth the wait and once your seated the food arrives quickly.

We came to this restaurant for my husband's birthday because pad Thai is his favourite. He wasn't disappointed - absolutely delicious. Order the tamarind version. The restaurant itself is pleasant enough, not high end but not a hole in the wall like many. Pleasant and reasonably attentive service though they were crowded. Servings are large which makes prices quite reasonable... More

Sawasdee Thai restaurant is my favorite Thai restaurant in Vancouver. My husband and friends have been eating here for many years and this is always the "gold standard" we compare other Thai restaurants to. It is rare to find a Thai restaurant that serves food tastier than this restaurant. The food is always fresh and cooked to the spice level... More

We have been eating at this restaurant for many years and we have never had a bad meal and never had poor service; in fact, our experience is always just the opposite: outstanding food and friendly and efficient service, no matter how busy the place is, and they are indeed busy. Highly recommended.

Friendly staff, amazing food and a cozy atmosphere. I typically do takeout, but on occasion have dined in. The red curry & pad see ew are our favorites and have to say that it was some of the most flavorful and generously sized portions we have found. Definitely a must try if you are in the area.

We were with a sizable group and the food came fast and was delicious. Go if you like Thai and want to try the usual and the not so usual.

Visited this place last week because of all the positive reviews. Unfortunately this is not authentic Thai food. Pros: quick service. Our server was friendly. Nice ambience in the back. Price was decent. The Thai iced tea was good. Cons: the front of the restaurant smells strongly of bathroom cleaner. We ordered the pad Thai with tamarind paste, and although... More

Staying in South Main

Neighbourhood Profile
South Main
South Main, or SoMa, is a neighbourhood in upswing. Inhabited by young humanitarian professionals in converted lofts and studio apartments, what was once an industrial centre is now a wellspring of vintage and eco fashion shops, contemporary sawdust-floor galleries, craft beer joints, and basement acting studios. All set to an Art Deco background with a strong blue collar sensibility underpinning each new pop-up and foodie trend, SoMa is on the rise.
