A friend holidaying with us in Vancouver said this is the best place in van for ramen. We'd never eaten ramen so, rearranged things to try it, just before noon, one day. Nine of us...around this table with a short wall of grass in the middle, made for interesting conversation, dodging amongst the grasses. Interesting, minimalist decorating. Food arrived quickly.... Ramen is very competitive in Vancouver with a new place opening up all the time and line ups. Motomachi is one of the original and stays authentic, although I think they could spice things up a little. The ambience is definitely the best, cozy. Expect a line up unless you go early or late. I ordered the double BBQ pork... More

I checked Kintaro next door first, and I saw that there was a line up, so I decided to go to Motomachi shokudo. I was very happy with my choice. Their service is very nice, polite, and prompt. On top of that, their ramen is always steamy hot, tasty and consistent.

Small restaurant that serves bowls of ramen. The soup base was savoury and well seasoned. They accept cash only ,there is a communal table in the center with a few table along the edge of the wall. Service is good.

There are so many ramen places now. I return to this place on occasion because of their charcoal ramen. Unique, tasty, with the perfect condiments. I also order extra corn, a pork bowl appie and a cold green tea. Perfect quick meal.

An early dinner before heading to the airport and we wanted something light. VanCity is littered with ramen houses and choosing one over another seems to be a personal preference. We chose Motomachi since my wife wanted to have the bamboo charcoal ramen. As there was a $11 per person minimum, my younger child had to order a full meal... More

Motomachi is tucked between two bicycle rental shops on the north end of Denman, so can be a bit unassuming, but their ramen is a must try. The first thing you notice is their menu, reminiscent of a glossy fashion magazine. I spent a good 10 minutes just admiring their menu! Their service is fast and friendly, but their ramen... More

Ramen broth comes in different ways, and if enjoy yours with a light texture, this is the place to be. I have tried most of the ramen here and I guarantee that no matter which one you pick, you'll be fully delighted. But let's not forget the real star here, and that's the Gyoza! I have tried many of them... More

I love eating their Shio Ramen. It's not too salty and the flavour isn't too strong. Perfect to drink the soup while eating their ramen. Their Shio also features a thinner noodle that I prefer, that the other noodles (Shoyu, Miso) don't have. This is by far my favourite ramen place, and I go to Japan 2-3 times a year,... More

Motomachi is arguably the best ramen in Vancouver, winning local dining awards over many years. I dropped in late Sunday afternoon before the dinner crowd, and ordered the dark miso ramen, unique to Motomachi. The broth is excellent, flavourful but not too heavy with a slight smokey flavour due to the roasted bamboo. The noodles were cooked to the right... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
Vancouver's business district, the Downtown area is bustling with smartly-dressed folks balancing their lattes and briefcases to and from work. The area's plethora of contemporary commercial, residential, and corporate spaces has bred a landscape of nouveau restaurants, chain cafes, and upmarket shopping options. However, located right on the waterfront of Vancouver's energetic Harbour, Downtown is a also popular public meeting spot, with a massive public library and convention center attracting a bevy of visitors both local and not, as well as a hotspot for the arts, being home to some of Vancouver's most cutting-edge galleries. With behemoth architecture and a professional air, Downtown means business.
