We had a very unpleasant experience at Samurai this evening after receiving terrible and unfriendly service from an older server named Frank. He came to the table promptly and asked for our drink order, when we said we needed a couple of minutes he appeared displeased and walked away. He was again very abrupt and rude when we asked questions... More

I frequented this Sushi bar yesterday after a long transatlantic flight: I was very tired and didn't want to go downtown in the cold and snowy weather. The place is nice, quite small, I would call it intimate, with a few tables and a long bar with ~10 seats, around two Sushi chefs. I ordered a traditional Miso soup, a... More

Staying at the Banff Springs Hotel last week I had a craving for sushi but did not want to go in town to get some. I reserved a seat at the sushi bar restaurant in the hotel. As is my habit I sat down at the sushi bar and proceeded to order a number of items. . Then came a... More

Our dinner was amazing. Having been to Japan, I can speak to the authenticity of the food. They fly their fish in from Japan. The sukiyaki is unbelievable, made with AAA Alberta beef. The sashimi was generous and delicious. Would not change a thing. We each ordered a salad with finger dressing. We had tuna, salmon and hamachi sashimi, tuna,... More

It has been 16+ years we have been visiting the Banff Springs Hotel and the Samurai Sushi Bar. We have never been disappointed. If you want authentic sushi, fresh - fresh - fresh - this is the place to come. And Chef is also amazingly accommodating. Natto? no problem, sustainable - yes, vegan - yes you can eat here! There were four of us at this restaurant. Two order sushi/sashimi and cooked items of the menu which were very fresh and very good. The other two decided to order the Shabu Shabu which is cooked at the table. Unfortunately, this was not good at all! This choice should be taken off the menu. The vegetables and meat were cooked... Service at the bar was great. Both chefs work quickly in concert with each other and are very courteous. We had the chef's menu, Japanese style, and each dish was delicious and well thought out. Very fresh seafood. The sushi boat that came to our neighbours was massive. The vibe and ambiance were great. Left feeling very satisfied but not... More

Nice little restaurant within the hotel. Food and service was very attentive. It is tucked away in the basement but worth the detour. Décor could be upgraded.

We recently visited Samurai for a birthday dinner. From the moment we arrived we were treated like VIP's! The service from all three staff (Ross, Frank and James) was amazing, attentive and professional. The quality of the food is out of this world, hands down some of the best quality sushi in Canada. A big thank you to all the... More

We found this little gem while staying at the hotel, and are so glad we did. The environment is very quaint and we sat at the bar so we could watch them create our dinner.
