I couldn't help but wonder if we'd stumbled onto a Stephen King movie set. It's certainly an experience that I'm glad I've had and so different from your average plastic pub! I wasn't so sure when we first pulled up and I went inside to...More

Great little quirky pub for walkers and locals. The Saturday night menu is basically a set list of about 15 world food tapas - tick the box on a piece of paper and hand it over... £4 each - absolute bargain. The food is great...More

It would be a shame if this building eventually closed as it has so much potential. Booked an evening meal as menu looked intersting. Quickly reserved by e mail. Then read these reviews so decided to check out first mid afternoon. And the reviews are...More

We read lots of reviews of the Watts Russell and, despite some scathing comments, decided to visit. The pub was quiet but it's in an isolated spot. We were welcomed, given excellent beer and wine and then had Tapas with a Twist. It was superb,...More

We had a quick pit stop there and it was an interesting experience. We walked in and got a look of curiosity from the landlady but not a hello. We asked if we could have just a drink as we knew that this was fully...More

Arrived for a welcome beer after a long walk. Chef sat at table and couldn't look up to acknowledge us, and landlady was monosyllabic. We were made to feel a total hinderance. A group of four arrived soon after us and came out into the...More

This is a charming place. Authentic in so many ways. A small pub in quiet, beautiful surroundings. Lovely beer garden outside, an interior that is cosy without any kitsch or affectations. Run by a couple who came up from London 14 years ago. He cooks,...More

So if you want a burger and chips with bottled lager and a buzzy atmosphere - go elsewhere. If you want the best, imaginative, vegetarian friendly, eclectic made to order food outside of big cities - come to the Watts Russell. We love the gentle...More

A pub with a relaxed atmosphere, genuine and straight forward. Delicious, well kept beer. Interesting food with an impressive range of tastes (tapas with a twist). Very accommodating owners. A delight to visit. If only there were more like this..... Disagree with the critical reviews.
