We are fairly local to Alstonefield and have eaten at The George several times. We've always enjoyed the food and the service is very good. We will visit again soon.

6 people decended on the George to celebrate my brothers 40th. We had booked in advance and it was all ready for us. Very professional and friendly staff who were on hand throughout the night. We all ate different starters, mains and puddings and they were all fabulous. Not too happy about the loos which were outside (it's winter) but... More

We visited here with family who were staying nearby. We had to book a table in advance as advised this was necessary. We were impressed with food, service and the restaraunt was lovely. Clearly very popular and well worth a visit.

Found this pub while visiting Dove Dale and I am so glad I did... small and lovely bar areas one with a roaring log fire which made it very welcoming. The menu was concise and all the dishes sounded enticing, not cheap but still well priced for the quality of the produce and if you love deserts then try the... More

We visited for lunch whilst out for a walk in February and it is clearly a very popular pub since most people had reserved tables and there weren't any left! We hadn't booked, but the landlord was very friendly and gave us a honest appraisal of the situation, and managed to get us a table after a few minutes at... More

I can say without hesitation that this was a gem of a find for us. Evening meal and accompanying wine were amazing. I can highly recommend it and we will definitely be returning.

Ate here at lunchtime at the halfway point on a walk from Dovedale and then stayed at a hotel with a 3 rosette restaurant at night and the Hake dish at the George was head and shoulders above anything else I ate during the day! Great food with friendly service.

Met friends a Saturday in January, with another couple. Enjoyed coffee in front of log fire, then went off for walk and returned for pre-booked lunch. High quality meal and they were happy to cater for our vegan friend. Alstonefield is lovely English village with great walking. Would visit again.

A very wintry Mid-December weekday evening saw us back at the George. It was very quiet and there were only a couple of other tables, but with a roaring fire the atmosphere was great. The service was very attentive but the food really did feel as if they were a bit 'off season'. The toasted nuts weren't toasted; and the... More

Really lovely food, quite expensive but I guess this is more for fine dining. I had the rib-eye steak, which had to be well done because I'm pregnant, and it was honestly one of the best steaks I've ever had! My only critique is that if you're a vegetarian who doesn't like mushrooms, you wouldn't be able to find a... More
