This was the dining highlight of our trip. The food was expertly cooked and even the "fussy" person in our group was impressed. They had a good selection of wine by the glass. I had some of the best seared tuna I ever ate. Others...More

Hi Yobs, re: your question. We love this restaurant so I re-read my review because I didn't recall making the statement about La Casona that you referred to in your question. Maybe I'm missing something??? Perhaps it was for another restaurant??? Here again is my review of La Casona and it confirms how I feel about La Casona being a real deal in the fine dining scene in Nuevo.... Adios:) Reviewed 27 September 2016 La Casona at La Estancia far outshines the rest in Nuevo for a fine dining experience. We have dined here numerous times, visiting family. We've numbered anywhere from 4 to 9 adults, always with a few little ones in tow. Our plan is to visit alone as a couple this coming winter to compare that experience plus I now have dietary limitations to apply. Most previous occasions were for dinner but also breakfasts (btw, the poolside restaurant is also good). The food is consistently excellent, well-prepared and beautifully presented. Special requests are happily accommodated. The wine selection is nice and cocktails are properly mixed with a good selection of top brand liquors. The atmosphere is comfortably elegant especially enhanced by a live piano. We've never been disappointed with the service, even on the busiest of nights. The wait staff is professional, eager to please at all times and happy with the children. This praise cannot always be said for other expensive restaurants around Nuevo where we've been disappointed too often by poor attitudes and food quality that does not match the $$$$. Even if you have to cab it to La Casona versus a restaurant closer to you tempting you with the perception of excellence, La Casona rates the best chance of winning you over. A taxi from the Paradise Village area ran us about 120 pesos later in the evening. If you like bussing it, the Riu bus travels from Paradise Village northward dropping off in front of La Estancia's sister property of Villa Palmar Flamingos but you'll have to take a taxi back southward. If you're coming from Bucerias, the taxi was under 100 pesos. Keep in mind the taxi rates go up each year.
