We have eaten at most of the decent restaurants in the South Lakes area and this is consistently the best. We always go here for special occasions and just as a treat. The food is always excellent (the starter of stornaway black pudding, quails egg, bubble and squeak is my personal favourite). The service is always with a smile and... More

The best roast beef I have ever had at a pub/restaurant last Sunday. Two good slabs of rare beef on top of seasoned spinach with beautifully cooked boiled carrots, great roast spuds, good cauliflower cheese and a giant of a Yorkshire pudding. If we could just keep cooking British food as faithfully as this, we would realise how good our... More

I visited the Punch Bowl restaurant with a group of 10 friends on a "stag" weekend. We arrived a little bit early for our reservation, so we were seated in a beautiful lounge area for an hour or so with drinks (the selection of beers is excellent and I'd recommend the Swan Blonde). We were then seated in a semi-private... More

Hadn't been here for years . Booked a table in the bar one Friday night . The food was absolutely excellent . Not a large menu but the chef was fantastic . The food was beautifully presented and the flavour combinations were excellent . It is probably the best meal I have had in months.

Very good pub indeed. Lovely situation, great ambience and an excellent, varied menu catering for pretty much all taste within reason. Helpful staff, decent wine list, good draught beers. Had a lovely Saturday lunch here. Booking is pretty much essential for food. would also be a nice place for a beer on a Summer's evening. Will be going back as... More

I went with my boyfriend and his mum on a week night, and from the minute we walked in the staff were lovely, wine was beautiful. A very relaxed atmosphere with amazing food, and the muscat dessert wine was to die for. My boyfriend had the steak which he said was far better than from a steak restaurant we had... More

We came for Sunday Lunch and had a really good meal. Although a limited menu (only roast beef when we went) The food was very good, with a huge yorkshire pudding, melt in the mouth beef, crunchy roast potatoes and the best tasting carrots I have had. Others in the group had steak and chips and guinea fowl both of... More

I couldn't fault the food I had today. The staff were very well trained and attentive. Walking out of there I said to my wife,'they were the nicest carrots I've ever had'. I don't know how they got such flavoursome carrots, and I wish I could make mine taste like that at home.

After having a memorable lunch 4 years ago, we tried 3 times to get a table, finally succeeding with a lunch reservation. But it didn't live up to our memories. Slow and disinterested service and very small portions. I had Crab Risotto for main course, but I thought they had brought me a starter portion and there was less than... More
