Ester, the owner, cook, and waitress at El Escapulario, is divine, as are her Chile Rellenos with orange sauce. Not one to typically order dishes with oranges or orange juice, I was convinced by Ester to give this dish a shot. After the first bite...More

Went here for dinner and shared the Oaxacan tasting platter. Good range of delicious food, but slightly overpriced at $300 pesos. Also ordered the mango juice which was warm and very watery. Still enjoyed our meal but expected more for the price.

This pace has the most magical atmosphere, even better... they make the best food you can get. I went twice and felt that I should have gone more. The 5 moles were beyond delicious, but bring a friend!

I ate at El Escapulario with family and was immediately impressed with the excellent service, and homemade, authentic and savory dishes. The guacamole with thick chips was exquisite. The estofados rojos (chicken stew with red mole) was out of this world! Served with fresh tomatoes...More

The food was very good - excellent mole. The restaurant is small and we had to wait a hour and a half to get our meal.

We really liked the family feel but we didn't really get on with the mole which we found a bit one dimensional - lump of meat covered in thick sauce. After this we gave up on traditional Oaxacan cuisine. Another couple there had a giant...More

This was some of the best Mole Negro I've had in Oaxaca - but it's also at the higher end. The recipe for the Mole has been passed on through the family and it is really something special. I like to have rice to eat...More

Like having lunch in a family home. Delicious food in a very modest environment. A surprise when the restaurants nearby are for the most part very chic.

The best food we have had so far! Will probably be back at least one more time before we leave. My husband had the Mole Verde de Espinazo and was blown away! He is a very hard one to please! We shared the tortilla soup...More
