Many of the Oaxacans we spoke with raved about Zandunga. Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed. The cocktails were watery, and the food was so-so. Perhaps we're just old and ornery, but the acoustics were also very challenging and it was hard to hear.

We ate here tonight. The restaurant is long and thin, but attractive lighting makes it comfortable and stylish. The service was fine, with good English language skills. There is no wine menu, but wines are available, all Mexican. There were 4 tintos (reds) available by the glass, one of which was a merlot, the rest blends. We have little experience... More

We reserved our table for 4 and were glad we had, since we otherwise would have had to wait. It's a popular place, with a pleasant wait staff, good Mexican wines, and an interesting menu entirely in Spanish. Another review that complained it caters to tourists seemed off the mark, since it lacked the menus in English that many Oaxacan... More

We shared the mix platter for two which allowed you to try a variety of traditional dishes. It was definitely enough food for two but nothing really stood out taste wise, but maybe we just aren't used to the food (although we have had better in the rest of Oaxaca)! Service was good to start with but we ordered second... More

Sorry about that... but I was limited to soups and soft foods when we dined here. The fish was interesting, as were the special, isthmus themed foods. They have a great bar for mezcal and other mixed drinks. Beautiful environment for dining.

This place is near the center of Oaxaca, but not in the crowded places, it's really nice and has great food and drinks. You need to get early, because you can find it crowded, but even if you have to wait, it's worthy.

This restaurant has earned a reputation for serving traditional food form the Mexican istmo. The place has a playful and simple decoration with some modern details and Caribbean touches. Though it was a busy night, the food didn't take long to be served and the portions were very generous. I wasn't very impressed by the flavours, but it was not... More

Good food, well prepared and with a choice of salsas that ranged from warm and smoky to hot and sweet all the way to "clears your sinuses".

We loved the place, it's not too big and it's warm and hearty, it has AWESOME food and attention! We loved "cochito horneado" and the Garnachas were delicious.

We just ate there once but had a great evening. Service was fantastic, food good. Ambiance good but it was noisy. We'd go back

Description
I ate at many of the restaurants listed in trip advisor over an 8 day period in Oaxaca. Decided to try this place because it was always crowded with the mixture of Mexican and non Mexican tourists. The food was from the isthmus of Mexico. Authenic but different than the usual Oaxacan cuisine which became repetitious after a while.
The food was different, with a lot of " I wonder how they make this sauce, dip, drink?" It was not fusion gitzy food that a lot of the higher rated restaurants on your trip advisor restaurant list present to the tourists.
