I'd eaten here before and it was fine, even good, but everything --even the margaritas-- were bad this time. At this point, I'd just warn people away, especially since Oaxaca has such great food.

If you are on the Zocalo look up at the second floor restaurants and at the NW corner you will see Casa de la Abuela. Start with the mezcal margharita and sit back and enjoy the view overlooking the Zocalo and Cathedral. Actually you need...More

This place is right on the corner of the Zocalo and the Alameda, so get a window table if you can. We ate there three times. I can especially recommend the mole negro, the tlayuda con tasajo, and the tamal de elote. Their flan de...More

This restaurant is centrally located on the joint corner of the Zocalo and Alameda park on the south side of the cathedral. The entrance is inconspicuous and easy to miss. The restaurant is on the second floor overlooking both the park and the Zocalo, so...More

If you must eat at the zocalo, La Casa de la Abuela is a reasonable choice. To my knowledge after many weeks in Oaxaca, there are only mediocre restaurants surrounding the zocalo. Although you get to absorb the atmosphere by eating at the zocalo, you...More

We ate here on our last visit to Oaxaca 8 years ago. It hasn't changed at all. The food is okay, but the best part as other reviewers say is the view over the 2 plazas.

Excellent selection of delicious traditional foods prepared the way Grandma made them. Very attentive service. If you order something with a sloppy sauce they bring you a bib without asking. (Of course this was the one time none of us spilled anything!) My wife's favorite...More

I first went to Las Casa in 2000 and fell madly in love with the place. I came back this week, twice so far and it is better than I remember. My first hit was an empanda en yellow (amarillo) mole. It was wonderful. Last...More

Very good food and an excellent mezcallini. Tastes almost like an appletini, but with a chili accent around the glass. Food was excellent - they have a dish with four moles. I had the chile relleno, and it was great. A table by the window...More
