Discovered this perch above the Zocolo fifteen years ago and have returned many times for a warm, wonderful meal while watching evening unfold in the Zocolo below. I've eaten many a Oaxacan meal - some cheaper, some better - and yet this is a fine...More

Mole negro tamales - delicious (sweet; not spicy); Chicken Almendrado also very good. Try a tlayuda (pizza-size tortilla) with something fun on it. Enchanting views of the zócalo, Cathedral and Alameda. Enjoy. We sure did!

A nice blue building on the zocalo, Casa de Abuela is upstairs, with nice views of the Cathedral and the activities around the square. I have been twice, trying a different variety of mole each time. Both black and coloradito (red) moles were delicious. The...More

We had lunch overlooking the zocalo one afternoon. I had a salad that was very good and my friends also enjoyed their other dishes. We had great service and although the menu was a little bit pricey, we felt that it was worth it.

Beautiful restaurant with the best almendrado chicken and dessert in Oaxaca. The ambiance is stunning while overseeing the zocalo and the orchestra playing during the week. I would go back several time every week if I could.

La Casa de la Abuela has a great location, on a second floor with views of the Zocalo that make for outstanding people-watching at lunch, though the prime tourist location does inflate the prices a little bit. The staff was very attentive. We had the...More

We had read good reviews of this place and wanted to try some 'real' Oaxacan cooking but we will never go back. The Mole Negro was bland and boring. I could not understand why anyone thought moles were tasty. The presentation was poor. A pool...More

What a disappointing restaurant with a great location. Flavorless, cold, with worst possible level of service. Keep away from here!
