It's full of little stands for food, condiments etc. but also with shops with artesanal objects and clothing.

Not much to see, when I visit Mercados in Mexico i expect to see lots of colorful local artisinal displays of products...not the case here, nothing looked apetizing or interesting, maybe it was just the place itself that looked very run down and unsanitary...

Very lively and bustling. Everything is pretty crammed in which makes it all the better. We had some ceviche and after my kids had a chocobanana dipped in sprinkles. Should be a stop for anyone visiting Guanajuato for the first time.

So it isn't the most comfortable or fancy meal you'll have. It's a marketplace. However, the food was super fresh and cheap! Had some amazing breaded shrimp, my boyfriend had a torta and we both really enjoyed it. Was maybe my second best meal of the trip... And one of the cheapest. Keep in mind portions are large. I had... More

If this is your first mercado enjoy it - it's full of photo ops If you're here for the food - don't bother - it's bland and frankly every meal we've had there and that friends have had there has the same flavor as the canned beans we buy at La Comer. What this mercado has that makes it interesting... More

Certainly worth a visit and do try some of the delicious food stalls. We had pulled pork on delicious bread and tried some of the exotic fruits we never have in the States.

The entrance of the Mercado Hidalgo is impressive - a high arch of pink sandstone. Pass though and you find an arched metal roof, very high to permit some air flow. There are many different types of stalls selling cooking ingredients, fresh fruit and vegetables and meat. At the east end are many inexpensive eateries. We purchased some dried spices... More

OMG! You can find so many souvenirs here at the mercado! No need to shop anywhere else. They also have various eateries to choose from.

There are several places on the ground floor to buy cheese, coldcuts, meat, souvenirs, typical candies, fruit and vegetables, and places to sit and eat. There are a few stands which sell canned goods and there's even a locksmith. Outside on one side there are places which offer comida corrida, on the other side there are a few stands selling... This place doesn't really get going till about 11 in the morning. It's kind of like the Costco of Guanajuato for tourists. If you can't find the trinkets, baskets, t-shirts, etc. that you want here, you probably may not find them at all.
