We went there for a family lunch. We are local and would love to be able to use the Rifle Volunteer but the food is awful. We had Shepherds Pie which was under a layer of fat/ oil and scampi which was dramatically over cooked, the peas served with it were like bullets, even though I asked for salad instead... More

We wanted somewhere on the Cornwall/Devon border to meet for lunch. Decided on the Rifle Volunteer. When we arrived our table for eight was ready in the conservatory. Orders were taken at the table and meals arrived quite quickly despite being six different dishes. Most of us then had a dessert. Everyone enjoyed their meal and we all agreed we... More

Service was rubbish, rushed, cocked right up on the meals! All our party hadnt even arrived but was rushed and said they would like to start bringing the starters out. The manager or the person supposed to be looking after us tonight was very rude Biggest cock up on steaks. Couldn't get 5 orders of steaks right we all ended... More

Visited for lunch today. Limited lunch menu to choose from and very little atmosphere albeit the lady who waited our table was pleasant. The food was reasonable and fairly priced but the venue didn't feel like a pub more a confusion of furniture. Happy to have paid a visit here to support them whilst staying in the area and if... Today my family had a lovely lunch time meal at the Rifle Volunteer. The men opted for the roast dinner and were not disappointed with the quantity of turkey and beef, my daughter in law and I had slow roasted belly pork which I think is the best pork I have tasted the crackling was cracking ! The vegetables were... More

Hi Christine. Thank you for your kind review. I do think our Sunday Roast is now hard to beat, and our Belly Pork always seems to go down extremely well. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and happy that the whole family was looked after. Hope to see you again soon. More

Always friendly customer service when I have visited. Food is good pub grub, at decent prices. My young 3 year old daughter is always welcomed too and provided with colouring books and caryons while we wait. There is also a little play area outside.

We stopped here after a walk to get out of the rain and wait for hubby to pick us up! We had nachos and cheese chips with a bottle of wine! We were made to feel very welcome whilst we chatted and waited for our lift. I was pleasantly surprised by the lovely interior and welcome and didn't tell rushed... More
