Who knew such excellent Italian cuisine would be found in Puerto Rico? We were in town overnight for a cruise. This restaurant exceeded our expectations and makes us want to return to San Juan just to eat here again! Minerva, our server, was excellent. The food was flavorful and portions generous. The cocktail menu was unique! Wow! Just Wow!

Our waiter, Luigi, helped make this one of the best dining experiences my partner and I have ever had. He guided us through the menu expertly and his recommendations were outstanding. He is a true master of his craft. We had the champagne shrimp, lemon butter scallops and filet mignon. The shrimp came with bread which was great to scoop up all that extra sauce. Everything was cooked to perfection. I had never had a good scallop until today. The steak was huge and tender. Leave your A1 at home because this is not the type of place where you need it. The meat stands alone. Cocktails were great. They have outdoor seating in a really good location with a nice view of the plaza that is perfect for drinks with friends & family. Pricing was very reasonable considering the quality of food and service. This is a must have if you are in Old San Juan.

Recommended by concierge at the El Caribe Hilton this was over the top delicious . From the wood ford reserve old fashion to the reasonably priced wine list the service by Raphael was exceptional . The apps were terrific . We shared mussels in a roasted garlic cream sauce and an empanada dish also delicious . Filet was grilled to perfection .raphael even brought it out sizzling on a platter to be sure it was cooked to my liking. I chose the roasted garlic sauce to go on the side of fettuccini with dinner . Desserts didn’t disappoint either . Both the creme brûlée and tiramisu were over the top delicious . We are thankful for going early on this trip so there is time to return to this gem . Only complaint is that it is noisy and busy so if u want a quiet romantic dinner this wouldn’t be the place.

You can see that we reviewed several restaurants in Puerto Rico and we enjoyed everyone with one exception. Sofia's is the horrible exception. The food was actually ok. Nothing special, nothing wrong, just ok. The reason for our review rating is the absolutely AWFUL service! Keep in mind that we went to Sofia's at around 5:15pm so there were people eating, but it was certainly not jam packed. The server never once came back to refill water or even ask how the meal was. Ok, so perhaps he was just having a bad day or just not interested in being a server. Watching the server's stand around and gossip while never coming back to the table was in our opinion, not good. The real problem was waiting over 37 minutes after receiving the bill and awaiting the return of our credit card. Yes, we turned the timer on the phone due to the unreasonable time. My wife got up and asked for the bill and they said just a minute. Ok, we waited, I got up and asked where our credit card was with the bill and was told, just a minute. Ok. After over 37 minutes it was absurd. What made it truly AWFUL was the server with the glasses who proudly proclaimed that they were changing shifts so you just have to wait. He was unprofessional, rude and downright repugnant! Seriously, 37 minutes just to get our credit card back due to a shift change??? Really?? We asked for a manager and were told there was no manager on duty and nobody cares anyway. How pathetic of an answer? I can honestly say that I would never, ever return to Sofia's and I would recommend that anybody strongly consider eating anywhere else because the service at Sofia's really is that awful!! We just wish somebody had warned us about the awful service!

I had dinner with my family here and everything we ordered was delicious. Our server Richard, was outstanding. he was so Friendly and attentive and the restaurant had great music. we had the mussels, calamari and meatballs for appetizers and they were all so good. I have been to Old San Juan before and have struggled to find good food, but I would recommended this place for a somewhat casual and affordable meal that hits the spot for everyone, including picky eaters. 10/10

I was interested to read about the history of Italians coming to Puerto Rico. With that information, I was not worried about eating Italian in San Juan and we wanted a little comfort food after some major long walks. The food was pretty good and Rafael an excellent server. We enjoyed sharing steak forteleza, pesto penne alfredo, pizza, lasagne and tortellini. I was not fond of the lasagne because I like mine with tons of garlic, sauce, and mushrooms. The pesto had flavor so I was happy. It was a very good lunch.

This is really mediocre Italian food. Disclaimer - we are from Northern NJ, home to great Italian food, so maybe this was just a bad choice. On the plus side, the drinks were tasty and we loved the gouda and chorizo appetizer. Our main dishes were both disappointing. My wife ordered the chicken penne pasta and the sauce was thin. I ordered the pasta primavera with pesto sauce and it was watery as well. The pasta was overcooked in both dishes and my dish was pretty bland.

Richard was fabulous. He recommended a delicious Korean cauliflower barbecue, excellent meatballs, a lovely Marguerita pizza and a wonderful Duckhorn merlot. But most importantly, he was friendly, solicitous and very helpful with great suggestions for seeing other parts of Puerto Rico. All in all, we had a very nice afternoon meal and It was due in no small part to our fantastic waiter.

This steakhouse is hidden right in the heart of old San Juan with a beautiful outdoor seating layout. You are greeted right away as soon as you walk up to the door and they did everything A - Z in regards to the coronavirus protocol which made us feel safe on our honeymoon. Our waiter George is without a doubt the best in the industry. He made us feel at home since taking us to our table. Since alcohol is not served after 7 and neither my wife and I drink he was quick to list off a bunch of lemonade flavors that the restaurants mixologist could go ahead and whip up. I highly recommend the passion fruit lemonade. George made sure our food was up to 5 star quality and don’t even get me started on the Korean bbq cauliflower that George hits with his infamous catchphrase; “if you don’t like it you don’t pay” and sure enough it has never let him down and he has noted his pristine track record for the fish. Overall if you are in San Juan this place is a must and if you have the chance to have George as your waiter then that just makes the experience that much greater. Thanks again George for making one of my mine and my wife’s dinners in San Juan rememberable!

We are frequent guests at Sofia's, and this time we chose Sofia's to take advantage of outdoor open air seating. My 7 and 4 year old children rated the cheese pizza #1! The service was outstanding by Anthony Paul and he brought that pizza out within 10 minutes of our arrival, which allowed my wife and I to enjoy our wine and ceasar salads while the kids were occupied. The Filet was outstanding! Tender, perfectly cooked and seasoned. My wife's chicken piccata was also excellent. The breeze in Sofia's outdoor seating was excellent and the chairs and tables are steady and comfortable. We finished our Friday night with a nice walk around the old city. We will continue to dine here as often as possible.

The food was spectacular, the service was great. Jorge was very helpful in giving us advice on where to go and eat based on where he eats regularly. We brought our dog with us and they brought out a dish of water without even asking which was awesome. He continuously would come out and check on us to make sure we were doing okay, he even paid attention to where we came from and why we were visiting, etc. The food was very authentic and brought back the tastes of Italy! I would definitely recommend eating here for a late lunch early dinner, we all got different kinds of pasta and a margarita pizza. I will definitely add a photo of my food later on!

Came looking for the former seafood place we had been to prior, and found sofia. Thought it was a gimmicky italian joint, instead got outstanding food with attentive personal service (shout out to Richard!). From the garlicky muscles to hand tossed pizza. Everything was delicious. **chef's kiss**

We visited Old San Juan in late January and stopped by Sofia's for a quick bite in the open air of San Juan. Our waiter, Rafael, was great. He recommended a beer special and then a great appetizer of shrimp. It was fantastic! Sofia's is right on the edge of Christopher Columbus Square near Castillo de San Cristobal, so very convenient. We would recommend Sofia's when in Old San Juan. Ask for Rafael's section.

Server was Khali who was very attentive and he delighted us with 3 of his personal creations: Verde Luz, Tarde en Venecia and Santa Rita if I do remember correctly. The food was delicious. Highly recommended. Awesome service, we were treated to a great lunch.

Wow. We live here on the island. When we had a special occasion I picked this place due to the ratings. Frankly, if you know even the slightest thing about Italian food you would never give 5 stars to this place. At first, I thought all was well. We ordered some calamari to start and steamed mussels. The calamari itself was ok but the marinara tasted like it came right out of a can! No flavor at all. The mussels had way too much cream in the sauce. Dinner was even more disappointing. When we got the bill we had been charged for bread (which also sucked) TWICE and each plate had three tasteless pieces of bread - was nearly $3! Our server was excellent but the food was tasteles. Will never go back to this place again!
