Such a surprise and delight.

In 2011, I began going to Ocho Rios for holiday, had my first grilled lobster at Dave's, however I never asked about the name of the establishment. I was welcomed, the prices the excellent, and I was able to mix with locals which was nice. For the next couple of years, I went back every year to Dave's restaurant, and was always greeted by the same people. I was so comfortable, and soon it became like home. I did not return to Jamaica until 2020, and decided to walk from Mammee Bay to Ocho Rios, and have lunch at Dave's. I had such a hard time locating the shack which had been remolded and replaced with a restaurant I needed to be sure, asked a few people about the location, and they confirmed that it was the same owner and place I had gone to for many years, Sat down, had the grilled lobster with garlic butter, three Coronas for a real reasonable price, and they do not add an unreasonable surcharge that never is given to the servers. Thank you Dave, I will be back.

Great food and location

I went to Lobster Dave's on Jan. 20, 2020 because I heard only good reviews about this restaurant on trip advisor. It was also within walking distance from where we were staying. We all I can say is we were not disappointed. I had the garlic shrimp and my boyfriend had steamed red snapper with bammy. Both of us really enjoyed our meals it had the right amount of flavor and spice. When ordering a fish they bring the fresh fish right to the table so you can pick the size you want. It did take about an hour for our meal to come but well worth the wait. Our waitress was friendly and knew the menu in helping us pick the right meal and was spot on for what I was looking for. Although it took long for our meal the view from this restaurant overlooks the ocean with fishing boats and a docked cruise ship. It is right next door to island village. I will be back.

Poor Customer Service

Myself and someone visited on Friday Aug 27th. We arrived at 5:30pm and were seated instantly on the inside. No one came to our table until I asked one of the two persons that passed our table several times if anyone was serving us. That was when someone was sent to our table which was at 5:51pm. At the time that we arrived there were only 3 couples seated inside in which one couple was finishing up with their table and 2 couples on the outside. When the waitress arrived she did not acknowledge or apologize about the wait time after I expressed to her that we were already there for almost 30mins and no one attended to us, didn't even ask if we needed water or something to drink. She proceeded to take our order as if it was a bother to her. After another 15mins I waved to another waiter since I hadn't seen my waitress after she took our order and he went ahead and took my drink order and brought out my drink to me. We ordered garlic lobster and the lobster platter, which did not arrive until approximately 6:45pm. The food was great, BUT the customer service was very poor! The place was not packed or anywhere near full so there should not have been such a long wait for a server to come and say hello or for our food to come out. When I asked the waitress why the food took so long she simple said there were other orders ahead of hers. This was a place I really wanted to visit during my vacation; I drove 1hr to get there and after my experience I am no longer interested in visiting this establishment again.

Room for improvement

While I’m all for a great sea view restaurant, this place a great view of the ocean. This place has place for improvement. Customer Service needs major improvement. The day we were present a celebrity was in Town (as they were exiting we were entering). Upon arrival we had to seat ourselves and wait to be attended to. Additionally, we had to wait over an hour for the food. While we had to wait for food we were served the main dish and finished the main dish before we were given our side dishes, then we were told that that they were having issues prepping the side dishes. Beverage orders were delayed, so I basically had to eat the food with noting to drink. Additionally, a colleague found a fly in their plate. Based on our experience we wanted to speak to a manager we were told that same was absent (unacceptable). My expectations were really shattered. Worst experience I’ve had in long time (coming from a food critique) There is definitely room for improvement.

Our $633 bill because you recognized us or thought we were US citizens. So you thought you could take advantage of us. Not realizing a couple of us were locals living right down the street. One lobster stated $40 we were charged a 120 US. 2 other lobsters stated on the menu 60 each we were charged 200 US The waitress did come out and tell us that they did not have the regular lobster available and that there would be a up charge for the next lobster but never mentioned it would be a $140 difference for the next size up costing $200 for a lobster dish. 2 Medium size fish $40 each US They ran the credit card and then we realized that we were completely taken advantage of and what they were charging, they never discussed anything, no management in the building. They bring out a small medium and large fish never discuss any prices. Tell you that most of the stuff on the menu is not even available, until after the food is coming out. Nowhere on the menu does it say starting price but this is what their defense was when we were arguing over the bill. If you don't have the seafood available that is on the menu and then you come out and say there will be an upcharge for the next one you tell the customer what that is not charged them an EXTRA $140 for a lobster. I would love to see what the $60 lobster looked like that got marked up to $200 my lobster should have been 3 times the size. Completely Unprofessional even some of the staff agreed what they did was wrong. We've eaten there several times and will never ever go back again, All because we were with a couple of Americans and they thought they could take advantage of people.

1. They were out of several items: ripe plantains, breadfruit, jerk chicken, black velvet cake. 2. Service was incredibly slow. 3. We asked for a cocktail from menu they brought it without alcohol and told us it didn’t come with alcohol. (Drink was a Bob Marley, menu clearly says proof rum) 4. Sweet potato fries tasted and looked like cardboard. 5. Mashed potatoes were so cold we sent back 6. Fried chicken was so dry it was probably leftover and reheated 7. Lobster was extra extra chewy.

Worst Restaurant experience

Went here for my birthday in January 2021 and the service was so poor, worst customer service. I waited over 1 hour for soup to be reheated after it came extremely cold. Price of the food on the menu completely different when your asking for information. Worst experience I had to leave after 2 hrs without food or drink and a bunch of excuses.

Quick and Worth it!

The drink pictured is sooooo good. Food was great. Appetizers can be very small so was the side order of mashed potatoes but everything else was extremely good! Surf and Turf oxtail was soooooo nice and the steam fish were definitely cooked with love. The butter lobster was good as well.

Staff was amazing but the food was a 1. We ordered escovitch fish and not even sauce was on it. Just one big fish for $4000JMD fresh absolutely no seasoning. I went with 8 of my friends and got there at after 6 and it around 8:30 we got something to eat. It was a horrible experience. If it wasn't for Kemar we wouldn't have eaten anything, he literally had to go into the kitchen and grab the wings were ordered over a decade ago. The staff was amazing 👏 😍 🙌 we spent over 40k JMD and was HIGHLY disappointed 😞

horrible place to visit on vacation

Trash trash and trash! Came here on a Saturday night. Our food took almost 2 hours to come out. Not to mention they up charged the lobster. Each of us paid $87 or more for some lobster and they didn’t even have the full menu… they only offered 3 different flavors. I would never return or advise anyone to come here. Meanwhile they brought different size lobsters out to another customer… yeah they are not highly rated in my opinion

Our first experience at the restaurant was excellent- the service was attentive and timely and the lobsters delicious. We were excited to return the following week and had the exact opposite experience - they didn't have the items we wanted on the menu and we were kept waiting for a really long time for the one item we ordered. We left hungry and disappointed. If we try it again, we certainly hope it will be more like the first. The earlier you go, the better.

Visited lobster Dave while recently in Jamaica. It was a group of 5 of us. Pro: Seated immediately Cons: They did not have any chicken The lobster was dry and without flavor They tried to say they didn’t have any of the standard $80 stuffed lobster and tried to get us to purchase a $150 one instead. Miraculously they found one when we declined it. When you did get your lobster, it was thin and tuff. The stuffed lobster was not full to capacity. It almost seemed like they had taken some out. Service was HORRIBLE! Our food took an hour, it was only room temperature and we had to keep asking people to find our waitress.

Long wait, nasty food

Me and my friend came here and I had to send back my lobster it tasted like crap. We waited for half hour before someone came to us and I still don’t know her name I think maybe she was new because she didn’t have a clue about the menu. I wanted to order wings for appetizers but was informed it would take the same time as the main course so I ordered shrimp because our server said it was gonna take a shorter time it came out about 5 mins before the meal I got 6 shrimp for $2500. Our waitress was pleasant even though I still don’t know her name she apologize 1 time she didn’t offer another option but that’s fine because I didn’t really need anything else.. this place is overrated the hype isn’t worth it.. I definitely won’t be going back. Don’t waste your money and time go to sharkies instead way better food and service always worth the wait..

Long Wait for Food

My family and I went on last Sunday mid-morning and the place was nearly empty; however, the wait for our food was literally 2 hours! What made it worse is that we ordered an appetizer and the waitress asked if we wanted the appetizer after she delivered our food. To be honest if you know how to cook anything, it’s more than presentation for me. I ordered crab, my husband ordered lobster and son ordered shrimp. My car an was barely seasoned for it to take it hours. Additionally, I asked that if a plate was ready to bring it out and not to wait for everything to be played because seafood get cold quickly. And this is exactly what happened. Cold crab and horrible taste. Lastly, are sides came out 10 minutes later and the wrong dessert was brought out. Great presentation, so they get one star. Never again will I go to this restaurant.

What a disappointment

My sister, her husband, her child and I were visiting from Canada and we went there thinking that we were going to get some good sea food seeing that the name of restaurant is "Lobster Dave" but we were sorely disappointed. After waiting for 2hrs to be fed as diners, we decided to leave since the food was not making it's way out of the kitchen. At that time our server Melissa (who was extremely pleasant) was able to pack our meals to go. We travelled 1hr to and fro from St. Catherine to this restaurant and did not get a decent meal. By the time we drove back to St Catherine, the food was cold, rubbery and tasteless. We cancelled the drink orders since we had to leave. I definitely would NOT recommend this place. Go to M10 in Vineyard town! Di food tun up!
