About
Great coffee, great breakfasts, great sandwiches and light meals made with the best fresh seasonal ingredients we can source. Our sourdough bread is made from scratch on site. We grind the coffee beans when we're about to brew your coffee, not before. We care. Some say our mojitos are the best in Havana.. ditto our coffee.. Come and decide for yourself.

After numerous traditional Cuban meals on our trip, we needed sandwiches. El Cafe had excellent sandwiches, delicious bread, very large portions for excellent prices. You must try the Dark and Stormy drink (ginger, lots of rum). We loved this place so much we ate here 3 times during our trip.

This cafe has without doubt the best food in Cuba. The breakfast I had was simply outstanding, the service was professional and flavours abound in the dishes we ordered. The cafe has a nice feel to it, is clean and easily accessible. Loved, loved loved this cafe.

The Café fills pop a half hour after it opens and stays busy till closing. Food is very good, the servers are always running to keep up, and the prices are solid. This is great value. We had lunch and came back the next day for breakfast. Both were excellent.

We ran into a couple in Havana who recommended El Cafe and we're glad they did. Lovely sandwiches (on tasty bread), great ginger drink and nice atmosphere. Reminded us of one of Vancouver's many "alternate" type restaurants that include vegetarian options on their menu.

Wow, we were so impressed with the food at this little cafe that we went back the next day. The Cuban pulled pork, yuca and orange marmalade sandwich is delicious. The next day we really wanted a dairy drink so opted for the Chocolate milkshakes. They were so refreshing and flavourful. Stainless steel straws are used which was great to see. We also had some fritters and a Chicken Sandwich, all very good. The service was fast and friendly. The prices are very reasonable for the amount and quality of the meals. Definitely a must go place!!

Nelson the owner and Lola the manager and the entire staff are friendly and amazing! The menu is large and so is the drink selection. Service is first come first seated. Line forms early. Menu is in Spanish and English on paper and on the walls above the register. The pancakes with fruit and honey along with a Dark n Stormy is a delicious way to start the day. Another delicious option is the yogurt and granola! Lunch recommendation would be the BLT & egg and possibly a mojito! Again, the staff are friendly and amazing!!!!

As yet i have not found a better place for breakfast. Everything that is written about the food is correct, the Sourdough is the best. HOWEVER, and the following is NOT a criticism just an observation, the customer is a victim of the success of El Cafe. Depending on the time of your visit, breakfast for me, will depend on the waiting time to get a table. I have waited anything from straight in to 15 minutes wait just for a table. It is worse for a solo traveller, like myself, because if a group of 3 or more people are behind they will get a table before a solo traveller, business of course. Solo travellers will be shown to a bar stool when El Cafe is busy. I always had toast and marmalade, usually 4 pieces but on the odd occasion three pieces. I have to laugh when i see the lady cutting the butter. I am sure she is trying to see how thin she can slice the butter. I feel that an establishment with the success of El Cafe could give more butter. Again just observations. Another observation is that the staff can get a little stressed again due to the success of El Cafe. During my 24 day visit to Havana i visited El Cafe 14 times but never once was i greeted with a "good to see you again" because the staff don't have time for remembering faces. ALL the staff work very hard to give the service we like to enjoy and by Cuban standards the service is very good. The above will NOT stop me keep visiting

Quite busy and noisy. Reasonable value for money. Daily fresh grain bread with which the well-filled toasts and sandwiches are made, highly recommended. The pancakes are fresh or warmed up depending on stock. The yogurt is quite sour and milky. Service variable, from friendly to distant.

We stopped for lunch at about 3 pm and had a few delicious sandwiches and great (strong! :)) rum cocktails. Service was professional, decor was chic, prices were very reasonable. Like most Cuban establishments, El Cafe is open-air and we enjoyed the local cat who sat patiently under our table awaiting a bit of pulled pork.

After a walking tour of old Havana our 10 person tour group had lunch here. It was one of the best lunches we had in Havana. My husband and I had the roast lamb sandwich. The lamb was tender and the bread was very good. We also had lemon rum drinks that were cold and refreshing.

What can I say? Unless you know where to eat Havana can be a minefield, especially when you want a healthy delicious breakfast or lunch. El Café is fabulous… fresh fruit, artisan bread, espresso coffee… best way to start the day. I have recommended this café to every traveller to Cuba and nobody has been disappointed. Wonderful.

This is a wonderful little cafe in La Habana Vieja. The pork sandwich was absolutely delicious, with tender, flavorful meat, fresh greens, and perfectly toasted bread. The cappuccino was rich and creamy. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made the visit even more enjoyable.

Ridiculously expensive. I'd already eaten elsewhere so just had a coffee (they didn't seen happy that I wasn't ordering food). Hubby wanted eggs and no drink. Came to around sixteen pounds! Never again! I'd recommend just getting a hot pizza from one of the many kiosks around town. You can also buy coffee from street vendors.

Best breakfast place in old Havana! Tried other places but ended up here for the last three days in Havana. The veggie sandwich was great with just a tiny bit of spice, and the plate with hummus was nice too. The bread that comes with the breakfast is good!!
