This venue was more of a convenience choice this evening, being only 20 feet from our hotel, but we're always keen to try somewhere new... First thing to note about this restaurant is its large size, compared to most of the 'street side' restaurants in...Nusa Dua. And unlike most of the other places, it is set well off the edge of the street. There is the usual curbside stand promoting photos of a variety meals, but unlike the other venues there was no one standing on the street trying to get you into the place. Upon entering the restaurant, we saw only one other couple seated. And while we instantly doubled the clientele, there were easily double that number again of staff on deck. After being seated, food menus were provided plus a drinks list that contained easily half of the drinks they appeared to stock behind the counter. No mention of wines, spirits, or cocktails which they clearly had displayed on shelves. We were happy to order the local beer anyway. The menu is mainly Chinese style dishes featuring familiar flavours with a slant towards different seafood options. Rather hilariously, after a few minutes with the menu, a staff came over and pointed at a painting on the wall of a pizza and asked if we wanted one even though it wasn't on the menu, and then brought out a page of specials which included a rack of pork ribs, which just seemed so out of left field. So far, so weird..... Then we ordered a soup for a starter each, and a main dish each.... Dishes didn't take long, with mains coming out first, followed shortly by the soups... Ok we thought, that's fine, we'll manage. I'm pleased to say both the soups were highly tasty and the chicken and seafood mains were well portioned and also flavoursome. And for under $40 Australian for all the lot seemed like a top deal... So while I find it hard to recommend Rai's seafood restaurant for overall ambience and service, the food was absolutely fine and the asking price was one of the best value we've experienced on the 'street' in Nusa Dua this trip.More
