Authentic Bengali Cuisine !!!!! Bengali food is one cuisine which would suit any taste bud. Its light on stomach & heavy on flavours, which will make you crave for it again & again. The list of delicacies in Bengali cuisine are across boundaries. On our...recent trip to Shantiniketan , we planned to pay a visit to "Borishaler Ranna Ghar" on 31 Dec 2021 for lunch, which is quite famous for its Bengali food. It was approximately 15 kms from Goalpara where we were staying put. The visit was definitely worth it & we thoroughly enjoyed our food here. Heres what we ordered :- 1. Veg Thali : Comprised of Plain Rice, Ghee, Dal, Shukhto (made of veggies including Bitter Gourd, Raw Banana, Pumpkin, Potatoe, Masala Vadi), Dhokar Dalna (made of potatoes & cubes made of Chana Dal), Tomato Chutney, Aalo Bhaja (thin strips of Potatoe deep fried). Each dish was a treat in itself. The thali was sumptuous & Shukhto & Dhokar Dalna was full of flavours. Food was very light on stomach, but no compromise on taste there. 2. Mutton Kasha : A preparation of Mutton which is dry in texture. The dish was extremely flavouful. The mutton was very tender & cooked perfectly. Delicious indeed. 3. Bhetki Paturi : A variety of fish named "Bhetki" fillets prepared with mustard & other condiments & wrapped in Banana Leaf, which is then steamed. Unique flavours & tasty enough. The Ambience too was nice & dinky. The owners have made an endeavour to give the restaurant a village touch, with the dining hall replicating a mud house with rural paintings on the wall & thatched roof on the ceiling. It was pretty pleasant. A special mention of the service. Only ladies serve here. We were being served by a lady named "Tulsi" who was so congenial & warm. She made sure that our bellies are filled to the brim. Excellent hospitality. Loved the service here. They have displayed few local artefacts & other items on sale just outside the dining hall, which the ladies would love to shop on. There's a Sweets counter as well, which sells Bengali Sweets. Since, our stomachs were already spilling, we were not in a position to try the sweets. Overall a memorable experience. Since we went on 31st Dec, it was slightly crowded & hence, there was a waiting period. Do visit here. Its strongly recommended. Hope the review helps. RegardsMore

Apart from the dhokar dalna, the rest of the items were extremely below average. The dal, alubhaja was ok. The patisapta was again just ok. The gokul pithe was nothing but a sugar stuffed fried I don’t know what…. If that was gokul pithe, then...im mike tyson. The most hyped item was mutton kasha. Im sorry to say, it was toi much spicy and being too much spicy, the taste was not at all felt. The mutton pieces were also not that tender. I agree, opinions do vary, but for me, the hype was just a hype. Thanks to you tubeMore

I have a relationship with bolepur for over 20 years. Since I happen to have a house there we are very well related to Barishal as well as Banalaksbmi. We have had the privilege of knowing NiranjanDa the founder. Barishal practically grew up in front...of us. Bring vegetarians we are always offered the same menu.this time when we had our meal we found the Doras were taken out of the fridge while the gravy was hot. This is is great fall in the quality in our 20 years of experience. I ghought that this is to be brought to the notice of Baudi . We are really depressed. We did not have the intention to immediately complain. However we would not like to see this organization fail in long run.More

Visited with my family on 27th March 2021. As per available information, I have preordered my lunch just a day before arriving there. To confirm called them on the visiting day morning to reconfirm my lunch. Just to mention that it is a prepaid food...system. Anything extra will be charged after finishing your course. Menu: Veg Rs. 130 / plate (It is the minimum order) Fine Rice with Ghee, Sukto, Dal, jhuri aloo bhaja, Dhokar dalna. Additionally, we ordered Postor boda which will cost you Rs. 70. For the non-veg we choose Prawn and mutton. One plate pinches you Rs. 270, with 2 jumbo size prawn. Next we tried the mutton kosa which is Rs. 200 / plate. The test is awesome and we really enjoyed the lunch. Note: Try to be there at 1 PM so you can have sufficient time to enjoy your lunch as we did.More

We had heard a lot about Bonolakshmi and its cousin 'Barishaler Rannaghar'. Initially tried to reserve a table at Bonolakshmi however those folks didnt receive any of the calls. So, I called up Barishaler Rannaghar (phone no. - 9476350554) and booked ourselves a table. The...lunch had to be ordered in advance. We ordered a Desi Murgir Thali and Posto Bora. Arrived around 2 in the afternoon. Being lunch time on a extended weekend Sunday there was a long queue. Fortunately we didn't have to wait for long i.e. 30 mins for a table to be available. The thali consisted of Rice, Dal,Alu Bhaja, Ghee, Kacha Lonka, Sukto, Dhokar Dalna, Chutney and Chicken curry. The environment is rustic: a village style mud hut that was teeming with patrons. Social distancing norms weren't followed at all. Any way,we were initially served the dal, ghee and rice. After we had completed eating, most people were waiting for the shukto to arrive. After the shukto it took a long time for the dhokar dalna to arrive. Whereas the food was tasty, especially the desi murgir curry was top notch, the same cannot be said of the service. While returning, we purchased ghee from their counter. The ghee was again superb!More

Good, homestyle cooking. We had golda chingri and mutton curry, over and above the standard veg thali of sun to, dal etc. We rounded it off with some 'pithe' for dessert.

Excellent home style cooking- simple yet tasty! Truly Bengali style eating. Humble atmosphere , purely run by ladies other than the cash counter. Location is bang opposite to Bonolakshmi. Basic veg dish is so fulfilling that non veg ordered separately was difficult to finish, though...equally tasty. May be its the home style recipe & "sheel- e- bata" masala that made the difference in taste :-) Some home made ghee purchase is recommended for sure.More
