Cute little eatery. Food is good and artistic but nothing traditional about it. Reminds me of a Seattle coffee shop. Good desserts as well.

Had breakfast here twice. Everything we had was very good; they make some wonderful baked goods here. Coffee drinks were really good. The place is small and it might be necessary to wait for a table.

Wanted some coffee other than Starbucks coffee. Local guy recommended this shop. I really like deep flavor coffee and this didn't fail. Price is pretty much same as chain shop but at least locally owned and operated.

Like most restaurants in Alaska, it is quite expensive. You got decent portions, but quality was inconsistent (2 good meals, 2 poor). You order at the register and the food is delivered to your table, but you have to bus your own dishes. Table was...More

Decided to have brunch "in town" before taking the train to go on to Fairbanks. A popular place, but worth the wait. Excellent pastry and breakfast burrito - and good coffee. We ate outside on the deck, with a great view across the road to...More

Staying at princess lodge across the road and was looking for a good coffee - cuppacino - and found it. Nice selection of cafe style breakfasts to go.

I'm very spoilt on good coffee. Before my trips I look up the top rated coffee places and mark them on the map. In Alaska I had coffee at Kaladi brothers, Snow City Cafe, and starbucks in Seward but Black Bear was by far the...More

Description
The Black Bear is the place to go for hand crafted, delicious food. Voted BEST CAFE IN ALASKA by Food Network, we proudly stand behind all that we do. Black Bear serves brunch every day until 3pm with delicious offerings such as biscuits & gravy, benedicts and classic egg breakfasts, BBQ pulled pork sandwiches on house brioche, burgers (both beefy and vegan) and our famous smoked gouda mac & cheese. Dinner offers something for everyone, from our vegan gluten-free coconut curry to wild Copper River coho salmon, braised short ribs and fresh handmade pasta with locally foraged morels. We love to find the best local and seasonal Alaskan products and bring them to the people. We offer a full espresso bar, crafting locally roasted SteamDot coffee, as well as shakes and fresh fruit smoothies. You can expect fresh pastries coming out of our in-house bakery throughout the day (some vegan, gluten-free too). And our deli case is always full of quick grab and go items to take on your adventures. If you're coming off a busy day, just grab a local beer or glass of wine to enjoy while you linger on our deck, breathe deep and take in the mountains. Black Bear offers something for everyone, whether you are on an indulgent dream vacation, or keeping on the healthy side. Locals love us, and you will too.
