Karoo Camana Bay

Karoo is top tier! The best meals I have had to date are from Karoo. I first visited Karoo in late July of 2021 for their Sunday brunch. We went as a family of seven. As soon as we stepped inside, we were warmly welcomed and special arrangements were made to accommodate my large size family. Once we were seated, a waiter came over to tend to us, wanting to know what we would like to drink. He then shared with us that the Sunday Brunch works on a self-serve basis; he then shared the menu items with us and took us to the serving area. The waiter was a South African man, who was very welcoming in his response to me greeting him in his native language after finding out he is from South Africa. He provided us with exceptional service. He does his job really well! From time to time, he came by to check on us to find out if we were doing well, and if there is anything else he could assist us with. Delectable! The food was amazingly good. All seven of us went back for seconds and thirds. We enjoyed every bit of it. As though the food and customer service were not enough, the ambiance settled in as a plus to our visit. Accommodations are hosted both indoor and outdoor, with the indoor accommodation providing a merger of both worlds. I will definitely be revisiting and I will be sure to bring a friend or two on my next visit.

It's the Caymans.....so it will cost to eat out- Meh-minus rating

On the "GOOD-Meh-Suck" scale, this was a "Meh-plus". Good service. The food was good albeit overpriced when you factor another 25% as the conversion from Cayman Dollars KYD to USD. It was 1.25 USD to 1 KYD and it should be 1.20 USD to KYD. Not cool but the entire island does it and you do not get to even say "pay in KYD" so your credit card gives you the best rate. But hell, it's vacation. Small portions. Expensive drinks. Par for the course in the Caymans. Calamari on the island was terrible at every place so avoid this for sure. Would I go back? Maybe but it served the purpose for the night.

Very nice place. I went on a quiet day, service and experience overall was great. Fish tacos and a Beer, music for the soul and heart after a dive. Thanks Sabrina for a great service.

Disappointing experience

I've been to Karoo on multiple happy hour occasions. Today marks the first evening open since the pandemic lockdown. Usually, the drinks are acceptable along with the service. However, this evening (30 minutes prior to close) the manager informed my husband that they (him and a friend) were not doing them any favors by ordering since they were open from 8 am. I found this to be rude and insulting since our intention was to support local businesses. We came prepared with masks and an attitude to follow guidelines. I'm very disappointed and embarrassed by the service we received.

Try somewhere else

I live in Cayman and work out of Camana Bay. I have tried all the restaurants in Camana Bay but like to revisit the bad ones to see if it has gotten any better. The reason for this is I work in tourism and like to recommend good places to eat. Unfortunately Karoo is still not on my recommendations list. After this evening they didn’t let me down it was still overpriced and awful . I found the drinks nearly double to those in town and the food no where near what I would expect at the price charged. I would however recommend Water Front good food value for money and great staff.

Waited for 15 minutes in an empty restaurant.

Waited to be acknowledged while sitting at a table inside an empty restaurant staring at staff talking with another couple at the bar for 15 minutes. No on approached us offering a menu or drinks. To make matters worse bartender stared right us and turned away to continued to talking to guests. Definitely wont be trying here again!

Pre-dinner drink at hopping bar!

Pre-dinner drink at camana bay. Lively bar scene and crowd. Bartenders were good mixologists and were making some very good looking signature cocktails. It was a short visit but comfortable and fun for one drink!

Lovely lunch spot at Camana Bay

Had a fabulous impromptu lunch at Karoo. The Service and advice on what to order was super. Had a delicious spicy margarita and fish tacos. Highly recommend!

Not good for eating maybe for drinking by the bay. The food had no taste and wasn't made from fresh. If it costs less it's because the portions are small.

Great bar food and beer

Walking around Camara Bay to kill some time and found this place. We are very glad we did. The Cayman beer was delicious. The Parmesan fries were great. Service was fast and friendly. They have both indoor and outdoor seating

Don’t expect too much May be ok for a drink

Service was a disaster. Took an hour to get a glass for a wine bottle. They lost a credit card. And flat bread pizza took an hour and base wasn’t cooked.

Unexpected excellence

Went to Karoo last night for dinner for the first time. I have been for drinks on many occasions after dinner in another location but this was the first time eating there and I was very pleasantly surprised by both the excellent service and the very high quality of the food. First and foremost this is a bar which serves foods rather than a restaurant which serves drinks hence my surprise at the wonderful food we had. We had Brie to start and a burger, my friends had chicken cordon blue and chicken wings and we had a couple of different beers and cocktails. Everything was delicious - good quality ingredients prepared very well. To top off the evening, the service we received from Steph was first class. She was attentive, efficient and checked on us frequently without being pushy or overwhelming- that can be a delicate balance to get right. The location is perfect - we went before sunset and stayed until 9.30 pm so we got some mosquito action. Fortunately for my co-diners, I took all that action as the mosquitos love me and they didn’t get ANY bites. So bring your repellent if you get bitten and are going at sunset. Thanks for the great service Steph as you made our night.

Nice setting just beware of the mosquitos if your sitting outside. Service ok but no coasters for the drinks which meant table kept getting wet

We tried this for the first time and were very pleased! The calamari was delicious as were the bison burger and chicken club! My friend said the club was one of the best she’s ever had! Great location also!
