A superb restaurant in a simple decor within the colonial town of Maldonado. The host, Franco, was there to greet us and was exceptionally efficient and pleasant. While we waited for our table we sat at the bar and were treated like kings by Belen...and Hernan. My wife had a drink created by Belen which was outstanding. I had the best grapefruit juice I had in my entire life. The fish was excellent and so was the pasta. In short, a delightful evening in a superb yet understated place. Shall return!More
Very popular place for no apparent reason. Uninteresting and overpriced menu...especially the wine list. Famous for tasteless empanadas salteñas. They get one star for cooking a bad steak well, but the ingredients of a gruel-like squash puré that came with it may remain unknown forever....Best part of the evening was the chain smokers at the next table. Do avoid this place.More
Fair enough in terms of pricing and quality. Tasty and service even with a big birthday on the place, was quick.
The only thing you can eat for about 700 pesos Uy is a milanesa and quite normal quality. Burnt food, extremely expensive for was it is in quality and gastronomic proposal. Really basic dishes. Nothing more than an “ojo de bife” for about 900 pesos...Uy. do not recommendMore
This restaurant in Maldonado is so dedicated to wood-fired cooking that there are *two* wood-fired ovens plus a wood-fired stove (!!!). There are always specials on the chalkboard, a great wine selection, outdoor seating in the summer, and a highly attentive staff.
We come to Punta annually in the summer, and every year we go 1-2 times there. Always very good. But the quality has declined a lot. We ordered the traditional “Milanesa Napolitana”, as usual. But this time the meat was very hard, fibrous, and the...thickness of the meat was very thin. A lot of flour covering, and very little meat. The photo shows the very thin red layer of meat. We complained to two attendants, but no one gave even an explanation or justification. Not even offering a dessert or coffee to compensate. We probably won't go back there.More
Meal, atmosphere, service ok. We were there many many times, yesterday probably the last one. The danger lies in the way out, since 100% of the customers arrive by car and park them on the street, there is no private parking or whatsoever, a lonely...dark street facing a bad illuminated plaza. A couple of very intimidating and aggressive tippers are fully alert as you leave the place, screaming ironically and demanding a tip, most probably half drunk or starting a drug trip through the night. It immediately transforms a peaceful dinner out into a real nightmare. I told this problem to the owners of the restaurant, the answer was “the is nothing nothing we can do about it”. Do not go to La Cantina del Vigía unless you believe you can deal with it. I left the car around the corner last night, to no avail, these junks followed me demanding my attention in a very loud voice. No place is worth this nightmareMore

Very nice place, great ambience in the old city of Maldonado. We had a superb provoleta, followed by a huge, i mean huge Milanesa Napolitana. Very good!!!
It's another MUST GO!. Once you are in Punta del Este, you should go, AT LEAST, once! Atmosphere, food, service, excellent !
The atmosphere and decoration are very cozy. Staff is incredibly friendly and professional. They seem to be playing a piece of music where each one focuses on their role. Simple and tasty dishes.
This whole experience was wonderful. The parilla is very cool, loads of superb staff. They even allowed us to go back and look at the setup when they saw we were interested. We had the pizza and warm beans with eggs since we have been...eating a lot of meat. They serve a fantastic pate ahead of time which was so amazing. Haven't had such a great pate since France but actually this was even better. Our food was perfect. Perfect experience. Super happy.More
Dinner started pretty well. We got The Provolet as a starter, one of the best I’ve ever had. Ordered a glass of wine, but the local Tannat was very bad. Changed for a decent Argentinean Malbec. As an Entrée we ordered a grilled fish (lenguado...a la plancha) which we had to sent it back. Fatty and with no taste at all - disgusting! Fortunately our son had ordered a good Marguerita pizza and that saved our night.More
It has been a long time since I had such an excellent gourmet dinner. We had panko shrimps which were served on an advocado mousse and a passion fruit sauce plus a sweet-sour "criolla" salad. It was superb! We also had grilled sweetbreads with rosemary...and greens. The sweetbreads were fantastic, no fat and perfectly grilled! The desert is another chapter: a passion fruit sort of creme (mega-delicious) over a thin crispy chocolate dough with a chocolate icecream (probably homemade). I highly recommend this reataurant which not only offers this kind of food but has a friendly service within a nice, cosy and relaxed environment. Will definitely come back!!!More
