The surroundings seemed pleasant enough with enough space between tables. It looked promising as the tables were mostly occupied and people were engaged in conversation with each other. The food and service, however, left us with a very different impression. The staff were mostly young...staff and appeared to be directed by the proprietor - come, hostess. The menu was written on a blackboard with various starters, mains and so forth. On several occasions, there were delays or food was misdirected to other tables although these mishaps were generally resolved within minutes it nevertheless was a distraction to smooth service delivery. The menu price was not expensive but neither was it cheap. The biggest and unforgivable distraction for me and my partner apart from the poor presentation and insipid taste of the starter of Foie gras which was greasy, sweaty and bland was the main course. My main course was in itself plain, tasteless and poorly cooked which was nothing compared to my partner who had ordered the cod. When cutting into the cod a large live red worm popped out and it was so active it could have been doing the tango. It was disgusting to see and to realise that one could easily have consumed it. Off-putting is being too kind to describe what we felt. Having called the waitress over she immediately disappeared to get reinforcements which resulted in the owner coming to our table. There was no apology just an explanation to inform us this was normal with fish and was to be expected. Maybe in her kitchen but not in mine I don't expect a large worm to be doing aerobic exercises in front of me while I'm trying to eat. Her attitude was appalling. We cancelled the rest of the order and waited for the bill, while waiting another waitress came up and told us our dessert would be coming shortly we repeated that we did not want anything else and were then informed we had to go to the desk to settle the bill. A pretentious place without the pedigree to back it up.More

Having booked a room and the New Year dinner celebration for the night of 31st Dec 2019 at L'Abbaye we arrived just after 15:00, the check in time we had been given, to find the hotel closed. We telephoned the hotel number only to get...a pre-recorded message to say that the hotel had been closed over the holiday period but was due to open on the 31st. We found a rather basic cafe close by and the proprietor was helpful but had little hope that the hotel would be opening. We called the hotel number several times just to receive the same recorded message. We set off to look for alternative accommodation and perhaps an alternative place to celebrate the evening but all was closed. Somewhat disheartened we continued to call the number and at 17:20 we finally got an answer and were told that they did not open until 18:00. Just before 18:00 this person arrived and finally we checked in. I have learned not to complain in France and so we remained polite throughout but no apology, no tea or coffee available - nothing. At 20:00 we plucked up courage to venture into the bar - still no one to offer a drink and I finally helped myself to a bottle of cheap champagne which was on the table already iced (£62) and it didn't get much better although the food was good, but no atmosphere and so we will not be recommending to anyone. Such a disappointing night and my rating is coloured by the attitude of the management to a customer that had travelled a long way to enjoy their hospitality.More

I have eaten here several times because it is excellent. Particularly good for lunch. The courtyard is a delightful place to eat in the summer.

If you are lucky enough to like the single choice per course menu de jour then its excellent value at around e14, the next takes you to the e25 three course option. Also limited choices before the full a la carte. Nicely prepared food but...not on the chosen e25 menu a gastonomic option. Pleasant but not smooth service, bistro food in a nice setting.More

This is not obviously 5 stars - it’s a small village hotel after all. It has flaws - no lift - very little water pressure on the top floor - not high on decoration. But it is à charming hotel with a seemingly gruff patron....But this hotel is what France is gréât for. The food in really good - all my colleagues love our waitresses. No cooked breakfast for the Anglais but it’s Ok - brilliant for the price. First floor rooms are fine - courtyard or street - village is very quiet at night.More

A very appetising three course lunch for only €14.40 is something to write about! The brasserie was full of diners, all tucking in to lunch, most ordering the menu du jour, although the other options listed on the chalk board looked very tempting - perhaps...next time!More

This restaurant is in a beautiful building next to the Abbaye The menu is small but each dish is freshly prepared with local produce A choice of fish or beef. We have often eaten at l'Hostellerie, usually lunch in the brasserie but also Sunday lunch in the restaurant. The food is excellent - an interesting and varied menu, reasonably-sized portions, always beautifully presented. Service is good and unobtrusive. Wine list is reasonably priced and a...good variety of French-only wines. One of our favourite local restaurantsMore

This XVth century village near the Aquitaine A10 is worth a visit along with a small town some 9km further. The local restaurant serves nice food and provides a solemn place to recover. Dinner is cooked very nicely although I do prefer the à la...carte menu. Not real haut cuisine be it nicely served and beautifully cooked. Your tongue will like the play of spices and fresh herbs used in the preparation.More
