What a wonderful find!!! We stopped for a water and stayed for wine, lunch, and great local conversation. We were drawn to this little corner shop because of the unique plant display out front. The hostess was so friendly and warm, we sat down and...stayed for wine then ordered lunch. Wine and food was excellent. If you are roaming around Crato, this is the stop for that local village experience. The hostess and other local clients were kind and so willing to chat with us. Highly recommend this place for your afternoon delight...More

Are you looking for the best little place in Crato.... ? Don't hesitate to pass by th 'A Mercearia' !! Even if you're not hungry, you'll find something. From artwork to local specialities to take home. iI's worthwhile a smalll detour. The hospitality and friendliness...of this couple running a small food- and art-specialities shop including a 'tapas-restaurant' with a selected few, but quality-wise top-excellent, items on the menu, makes a great impact on you. You can not walk away without simply admiring and adoring both the food and the atmosphere. We will be back!More

Lovely run place with great local specialties and crafts. A great little stop on the hilly ups and downs of this village.

We came here to buy a few local handicrafts and fell in love with this cute little place so we returned the next day for a great homemade lunch. The owner is so nice! We had a fun conversation with her (thanks in part to...Google Translate!) All her food is lovely and reasonably priced, but if you don't want to eat an entire meal, you must at least try her homemade cakes with a coffee. Delicious!More

"A Mercearia" was a old shop that was converted last year to a small "tapas" place and a shop where we can buy local products. We went there in late afternoon for have some small food and we were very happy with what we got!...Fantastic olives, bread, cheese, chorizo and a great wine all from Alentejo! And a great talk with the owner of the place, Catarina, that was very nice and friendly! A place to go if you are around Crato and want to have small food with good wine for a very decent amount of money!!!More
