How much is experience worth to you? Some people complain about the cost of this restaurant but nearly it stands as probably the best meal my wife and I have ever had. Yes, it cost $700 for a meal for two, but it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And how many of those do you get?

Surrounded by professional waiters and servers...you wonder why you never saw this kind of service before - then you get the bill. But if you never went to a super-fine restaurant, this is the place to go to see what all the fuss is about. Save your money up and go here to see what Michelin ratings are for. Marc... More

I have eaten here quite a few times..but this was special. It's in a a tiny village two minutes from Vezelay, one of the most interesting villages in northern Burgundy as it's on the pilgrim trail to Santiago de Compostela. I'm sure that many though, make a pilgrimage to this restaurant alone. Marc Menau has always been an extraordinary chef... More

Rarely have we been so disappointed in what we thought would a superb experience. We were greeted with chaos and confusion and then it went down hill. In addition to very modest food the swirl of wait staff was disconcerting and distracting, preventing relaxed conversation. We had so many superior culinary experiences over the course of two weeks at fractions... More

Upon arrival, we were taken to an outdoor patio area for the aperitifs and amouse bouche, which was nice. However, it was starting to get cold, there were bugs around (it's in the country), and service was slower than I would have liked. They may have been letting us enjoy the sunset but I was definitely ready to go inside... More

From the amuse bouche to the dessert tray, everything about this lunch was remarkable - including the service. This restaurant deserves the Michelin stars. We stayed at the hotel for two evenings, so we also enjoyed a very elegant (and rather expensive) breakfast. The hotel is less expensive and less dramatic than the meal, but it was a charming base... My husband and I have been three times at L'Esperance; the experience was transcendent every time with the tasting menu. We've been to several three Michelin-star restaurants, but Marc Meneau goes beyond them all with his absolute dedication and love for his artistry, without a single hair of arrogance. When I told him that he is an artist, he replied... More

Description
Nestled in the medieval village of Vzelay in Burgundy, acclaimed chef Marc Meneau's l'Esperance hotel and restaurant has long been on the hit-list for serious francophilic foodies. Meneau was the rock star of French cuisine in the 70s, and this exquisite two-Michelin-starred restaurant set in a verdant conservatory overlooking vineyards and the topiaried, trout-ponded gardens filled with contemporary sculptures has long been his labour of love. A true artist, Meneau has created the perfect pilgrimage for gourmands, and sample dishes include the lobster roasted in carrot and orange jus scented with ginger, and the Charlotte cake flavoured with apples and garnished with orange zest. The wine list, and the service, at l'Esperance are both superb.
