We went out mid-week looking for some good pub fare and to be honest, we found it. The Red Lion is in a good location, not far from Rickmansworth. We had been there before. The evening we chose however, was a little bit quiet. There were only two other couples there and when they left, we were alone. The food... More

We had pre-booked for a Saturday lunch, being a group of ten friends (9 adults & 1 youngster). We were seated in a rear room and seated on a table together, which was very nice. (I've just seen other reviews with a 'child' admittance problem here but we were fine). The menu has a number of starters & potential main... More

Went for a long walk with 3 young boys in the rain. Got to pub and started taking bouts boots off while staff were watching. We were then told no children although there was plenty of space in the back they wouldn't even let us stay for a drink. Very unfriendly staff

Nice pub but pricey (6.50 for a sandwich), but kids are absolutely not welcome and not the most friendly to adults either..saw others with kids being turned away even if they sat outside..probably wouldn't return Bedford Arms next time

It was our first visit to this pub for Sunday lunch on 20th November. 6 people, 4 roast dinners, 1 fish pie and 1 veggie currry - 10 out of 10 from us all !! My husband is a big 'foodie', he said it was the best fish pie he has ever had !! Amazing food, together with lovely service... More

We have had excellent experiences in the past at The Red Lion, as my past reviews over the years have shown, but the news that Landlady Heather Norris was back in the kitchen after a very long break, was like striking oil ... or maybe more to the point, the Red Lion was getting back the best Cook this delightful... The Red Lion in Chenies serves good sized decent portions of home made food. all 5 of us enjoyed our meals. Service was good, you always get a decent pint and the wine is very favourably priced compared to local alternatives. Will definitely return.

Hi, it's been a while, but, as Colin Welland said (all the way up to 2 November 2015, R.i.p), 'the British are coming' ... and they have ... delightful new staff, and the twins, Heather & Dee, in the kitchen, so the food is really good, the atmosphere engaging, and Mike is smiling; so all i can say is, come... We came in to eat right on opening time last weekend, a party of 6. Landlord was a super chap, very friendly, and the food was very good indeed. It has been over 10yrs since I've been in the Red Lion, I won't leave it so long again.

We chose the Red Lion because it welcomed hikers and historically had received accolades for the food. The pub was quiet for a Sunday lunchtime and we did not see anyone eating, which should have alarmed us. We ignored these obvious warning signed and ordered the beef pie. The pie was served with barely cooked broccoli and some other vegetables... More
