Apart from a take out,we hadn’t eaten here for years. It’s a decent bar area, good service, welcome choice of beers and, apart from pub classics, they have small bite tapas of sausage, black pudding, battered fish goujons and the like. Would certainly return

When you are served a burnt, rock hard sticky toffee pudding send it back & the chef sends the server back out to tell you it's not burnt, I have to say I was a little lost for words. It was charred on the top,...and it took some effort to break through with a spoon, but apparently according to the chef it was perfectly acceptable to eat 🤔. The main course (fish & chips & mushy peas) was very nice. On the plus side, the staff were very friendly & attentive . Not sure if I would rush back for a second visit.More

Just returned from a one night stay. What a fantastic find. Beautifully decorated modern spacious rooms. With thoughtful touches. Which included a coffee machine, fruit bowl, mini fridge with prosecco and orange juice. Tissues, magazines and even thought of sanitary products. It's these little touches...that mean alot. Topped off with such friendly helpful staff. We had a cooked breakfast in the morning which we couldn't fault. Thank you for a lovely stay.More

Our daughter just moved to Rossendale and suggested dinner at the Eagle and Child. What a revelation! I had the steak and ale pot pie which was the absolute best pie I have had anywhere in the World and I have spent my life travelling...the World on business. The meat was so tender and the pastry feather light with such a beautiful gravy I asked for a spoon as did not want to waste any! My wife had the cheese and onion pie which she pronounced as one of the nicest things she has ever eaten. The chips accompanying both both were superlative and the mixed veg i had with my pie were cooked to perfection. I must give praise as well to the waiting staff who were so polite, efficient and made you believe they really are that you enjoy the evening. We can’t wait to go back and try the Sunday roast which have heard good reports about from our daughter. It sure was worth travelling over 200 miles to have such great food in a welcoming and warm atmosphere.More

I'll start by saying I've been to E&C 2-3 times before and had a decent experience. However my last visit on Friday 1/10 was pretty poor. We arrived at half 3 and was made aware that given the time of day, they were offering a...reduced Tapas meal, we had 4 dishes, a bowl of chips, 2 glasses of wine and a coffee and the bill came to £50. I don't mind paying for decent food but the best thing that came to the table were the chips... Jerk chicken was decent and tasty, Mac & Cheese balls were ok, but vegan black pudding was dry and tasteless and the prawns were disappointing - I think they were £8 and that got you 5 prawns in a bland oil. I would have given less stars if this was a one-off review but as mentioned my previous visits have been better and the service was good. I've tried to be fair in the review, but with prices & a tapas menu comparable to that of A'Vucciria in Rawtenstall - the 2 are Chalk and Cheese in terms of quality. It may be worth sticking to the main menu and just not offering food between 3-5pmMore

After seeing so many positive reviews and various awards won etc.. I have to say I wasn't blown away at all. Ordered the half baby chicken and the gammon. The baby chicken was just that...a very small bird indeed and the harrisa and lemon coating...was barely detectable. The gammon was OK, but it was just about cooked and my partner prefers a bit of charring. The chips that came with both meals were pale and tasteless, and the addition of thyme on the tomatoes was quite unpleasant. Perhaps it was the choice of dishes but I really don't get why this place is so popular. Finally, I'd expect an establishment that claims it's a cut above the rest to have proper salt and pepper cellars and not disposable little packets!More

Twelve of us went on Friday 20th August, to celebrate my birthday. Only three of us had been before.. This was my third-time x From start to finish, the service was excellent. Josh and Oliver looked after us, both are very professional and friendly. We...were in the conservatory, and enjoyed the views and took a tour of the incredible garden. And the food! For me, it's the best food around. I have a gluten and dairy intolerance, but the chefs adapted the hunters chicken and it didn't feel like I was missing out. My friends loved the food, especially the sticky toffee pudding. They were already talking about returning for the Sunday lunch. We weren't rushed, the portions were hearty and we all left happy xMore
