This is our favourite restaurant in Knockdoe Galway , The staff are so welcoming and friendly, the venue is spotless and they checked our Covid vaccination forms upon arrival .
My husband opted for the steak it was cooked perfectly and so tender , I too opted for steak and that was excellent and so tender , the mashed potato and veg are also so tasty .
We shared a dessert as we were full
The apple and rhubarb pie with Baileys custard and ice cream was delicious.
We have been to this restaurant so many times on visits to Knockdoe , personally for us it’s the best food , we’re very fussy , and this restaurant is up there with the very best .
We also did not find it noisy, all tables nicely spaced out and staff more than knowledgeable with the menus .

After a long trip from the North of Ireland to the south we stopped here for a bite to eat after leaving our bags of locally.
The staff was extremely pleasant and the food was quite good to .I had a steak and I'm fussy but was cooked to perfection.
We all enjoyed it so much we ate a second night also .
I was also pleased with being Checked both nights for vaccination cards .
Keep up the good work guys .
We will return .

Excellent food, huge variety in the menu. Massive effort on the Covid policy, staff in visors, tables well spread out and chairs and tables were thoroughly wiped down between service. We had the young waiter (tall lad, dark hair) serve us and he was so professional and friendly. Well worth a short trip from Galway city.

We were really looking forward to a lovely meal as our previous experience was so nice. Unfortunately, this was not to be. The Duck which is €28 was overcooked. It was not crispy on the outside it was burnt. Due to the price of it I put the remaining two thirds into a tissue and brought it home for my dogs. The side of vegetables served with it were hard and the sweetcorn in the middle of carrots and broccoli was not nice. The service was poor. Our starter was given to another table and we ended up waiting 40 minutes. Such was the delay our main course was put on the table just as our starter plates were lifted. No wonder one of the meals was cold and had to sent back to be reheated. It is not fun eating alone while you are supposed to be enjoying a meal together. Really disappointing. We will not be back.

Went for dinner here as we had been to the old spot in Claregalway and also the new one here in Knockdoe. You should not attempt to use the mens room, as there is no soap in the dispenser, the electric hand dryer doesn't work and there are no paper towels, so you end up with soaking wet cold hands on return to your table. If you are forced to use it, try not to breath as the smell of urine can be overpowering.
I ordered the mushrooms to start and Tortellini pasta, my wife ordered the duck. After 40 minutes of waiting no one came near us, would have loved to have another drink by now. Then we were informed that my starter was given to another table and would be here soon. The mushrooms were very nice and thats about the highlight of the entire evening.
I had to send my Tortellini back as it wasn't even luke warm, after microwaving it, I could only finish about a third of it, it was that bland. My wife had the duck and there was nothing crispy about it although it was cooked to a horrible shade of black.
We decided to pass on desert and cut our losses. This was possibly the worst 70 euros we ever spent. AVOID.

Always delicious food here but sadly on this occasion dessert was a big disappointment. The Abbey used to serve the most delicious crumble in individual ramekins and tasted like it was cooked to order which isn't difficult with this dessert. Unfortunately on Friday night I got a huge slice of soggy, sad crumble, not at all like it used to be. Cant understand why, when a restaurant does something good, they cant keep it that way. Will return but not for dessert!

This is a gem of a restaurant, I only wish I’d found it earlier. Home from UK and the food was truly amazing (fillet steak / Thai green curry) the staff were excellent, attentive but not in your face and so friendly.
The guy that greeted us (the only guy there) was so so nice and friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for anyone.
The COVID precautions were fantastic, staff wearing visors, great table spacing and a really comfortable enjoyable evening. The deserts are to die for and we can’t wait to return the next time we are home.
It’s fantastic to have a local restaurant of this standard and not have to travel all the way into Galway. Superb

Myself and my partner attended The Abbey Restaurant as recommended by friends of ours. The food was great and our steaks were cooked to perfection. The service was excellent, however, the manager was very short and rude to us on arrival and throughout our stay. I witnessed the manager talking down to one of the waitresses in front of the restaurant. It was very unprofessional and a very immature way to deal with any situation that may have occurred in the restaurant. I hope things improve here before my return.

Went for dinner to this restaurant today Sunday 4 adults and a baby. We had 3 courses each and the service was excellent and food delicious. Food very reasonable. A very homely spot nice and warm. Staff friendly and helpful.

Six of booked for Sunday lunch here recently. We have not been for a long time and it will not be as long again. The food was brilliant and the young team serving were great. We had a good mix of the three courses and not one complaint apart from being too full. Can't wait to return.

Stopped here for dinner on our way to mayo, very nice food, very pleasant staff. We enjoyed our meal and drink, resuscitated us for the last leg of our journey.

This is by far the best meal i have had for ages and reasonable priced

Cathal and his staff could not do enough for our party. The service, food and atmosphere was 1st class and would highly recommend The Abbey for Sunday lunch, dinner for date night or for a special occasion.

Went here while on holiday from Belfast with 8 friends staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. Martina was lovely and treated us so well all evening.
