One less option for Greek Styled dining in Fitzroy. A notice in the window says they may open again somewhere else. A little further north on Brunswick St is another Greek restaurant.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal as a whole family here at Pireaus Blues. We ordered a banquet and the food did not stop coming out. Most importantly it was good quality food, fresh and scrumptious! The baclavà was definitely the best I've ever had. Great environment and friendly staff. Just watch the parking on Brunswick Street, I did get a... More

We were able to book here for only 2 people, a big tick in our opinion! Fantastic evening range of traditional Greek food and some more modern. We shared 4 small plates with fabulous scallops, calamari , and 2 vegetable dishes. Just left enough room for little Greek donuts with Nutella, rich and delicious! Great value, friendly service, would definitely... More

This restaurant has been a staple on Brunswick Street for many years, and for good reason. It serves simple no-frills, but delicious Greek food. For a lunch we went for several sharing plates including the dips platter (with tzatziki, tarama, and lovely smoky eggplant dips, skordalia and pickled vegetables), dolmades and saganaki - all of which were wonderful. Off the... More

Try the pita bread. There is a variety of dippings. Great grill foods. Serve perfect with beers. Service is awesome too!

Walking from Johnston Street into Brunswick Street just a few door up on the north side is a very cosy and quiet Greek Restaurant called Pireaus Blues. There is something about first appearances and atmosphere when you enter a restaurant that tells you that you are going to have a good meal, service and the evening will be a success.... More

We wandered in here with no expectations; simply we had been to Piraeus and the name attracted us. It is no fuss, casual, inexpensive, and authentic flavoured Greek food. It doesnt try to do anything more and what it does it does well. Just what we wanted for lunch (I was going to say a quick lunch, but some Greek... More

My wife and I lived in Fitzroy for 10 years and wanted to show our kids around on a visit to Melbourne. Piraeus was one of our regular haunts so we took them for lunch...a little disappointing. There's no doubt our memories may have faded in the years since we were last here but it was not great and maybe... More

Staying in Fitzroy

Neighbourhood Profile
Fitzroy is an unusual blend of working class roots, hip gentrification, and a robust bohemian work ethic. Along Brunswick Street and its side streets, you'll find little independent shops where local clothes and furniture designers display their wares. There are specialist bookshops, funky record bars, and quality vintage clothing shops where browsing is the next best thing to buying. Gertrude Street is famous for its cuisine and art galleries, but if you want to buy an old-fashioned snooker table, there is a shop for that too. Small pubs still exist, tucked away on the corners of suburban side streets that serve up traditional Sunday roasts. Live music abounds, and the street performers play so hard you worry to tip them would ruin their concentration. Venture to the Spanish quarter on Johnston Street and you may even find street dancing. It is all happening amidst off-beat street murals and the shuffle of a very funky neighbourhood that embraces both old and new.
