The staff is very helpful but we were disappointed with the state of the cabinas. They were extremely rustic and the view from most of the cabinas is obstructed by trees and the roof of the restaurant or the house below. The four newer cabinas had a better view but they were not available. We found the first two cabinas... More

Fresh trout from the property. We hired a guid fromthis location and walked the woods near the lodge. We were very lucky to have seen 4 males and 2 female Quetzals.

A true gem of Costa Rica. The cabins are modest and I was freezing because I hadn't come properly prepared for the high mountain temperatures. However the cabin had a small heater that helped and lots of blankets. The very kind staff filled us up hot water bottles, to warm our feet in the bed. It works better than I... More

Hidden gem on the Interamericana, just 2 hours driving from San Jose. The perfect place to relax, disconnect from the world a bit, and perfect if you're a hiker or bird watcher (Quetzales). Friendly and helpful staff, interesting tours, and the restaurant offers a good variety of local specialities, with ingredients from the area if possible (try the hot chocolate... More

Honestly, I can't review the hotel itself because we had to cancel our reservation the day we were supposed to arrive because of a snowstorm at home that cancelled our flight. The hotel has a policy that if a reservation is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, they will charge the cost of one night's stay. I would have... More

The accommodations are too minimal to be comfortable: very cold with open cracks around the doors and insufficient heaters. Our first night we slept in 53 degrees, even with heater on, and 4 blankets -- very uncomfortable. Our cabin and bathroom were not cleaned, and we had to request towels! Food is good and personnel friendly. Location and views are... More

Fresh trout, simple but delicious food. Nice people. They even have a fireplace which is a welcomed thing after being in the raw, damp montane cloud forest.

We stopped here for coffee and a snack. Both were fine and welcome on a cold morning. Best of all, was the opportunity to spend time at their hummingbird feeders and to walk the Danta Trail. The forest is wonderful - you are close to the restaurant/cabins but feel like you are far away. You have a good opportunity to... More
