We had lunch at the Pelican back in the 70's. Our memory of the place was much different than today. Meal was lunch and average at best. Didn't have the cozy charm of the once pub it was. Very much a place to eat and drink for the locals.

Varied choice of meals served throughout the day. Excellent for mid-journey breaks. Great garden for families.

We have been calling into the Pelican Inn over the years on our way to Southampton because we knew that we could always get a really good meal there. Unfortunately the last two visits we have not enjoyed our meals. I don't know whether they have changed their chef or they were having an "off" day? We called in last... More

We have periodically visited the Pelican for meals and found the menu to be basic good food, well presented, cooked and tasty. Lunches were also good. The meal we had tonight was the worst we have had in years. Four dishes were unavailable from the limited menu including the pie. The French onion soup had been thickened with something (perhaps... We called in by chance as we were camping nearby. The food was very good and the staff great with our dog & children. I can recommend the pizzas ( home made 2 for £15 on Thursdays) and the Liver, bacon & mash. We were so impressed we went back the next evening. There is also a large garden &... More

Stopped here on our way back from Exmoor. We had no knowledge of this pub, we simply had two little ones in the car and we were all hungry! Spotted the Pelican and pulled into the car park to see if they had a beer garden for the kids to play in (didn't seem to be advertised out the front... More

We were travelling from Taunton to Portsmouth for a Christening and called into the Pelican for breakfast. Vince and his team made us feel so welcome, that when we saw the evening menu, we asked them to reserve a table for us for dinner on our return journey. :)

I was interested to read a review posted about a visit here last May. In this the reviewer talked about the chef appearing not to know the difference between a pudding and a pie. I had a similar experience last night. My husband and I stopped off for supper on our way back from the West Country. The two girls... More

We had a sunday roast here, food was good, slighly above average. The portion sizes were genereous. The sitting and the whole atmoshpere of the pub is old and and somehow looks like your nana's sitting room. Nothing wrong with it, it is just a bit outdated, and oldfashion really. Good for reasonable priced, quick on the go homemade feel... More

We stopped on the way back from a day out and to be fair we were very hungry. I ordered the lemon sole and my husband had the sausages and mash. Both meals were nice but very small for the price (I only had three new potatoes). We are not big eaters and don't like to be swamped with food... More
