Stumbled upon this restaurant by the street of Melle, since it was lunch time, we decided to stop from our trip across the region. We were absolutely stunned by the quality of the food, as well as the interior of the restaurant, and how much...attention to details have been put into. I took the menu where I had the pâté de volaille as a starter, then white fish with green sauce and mashed potato and they are just wonderful, I came back again at another time for dinner, and it's just wondeful, their wine selections are also great. Will definitely come back and bring my parents!More

after a visit to the wonderful St Hilaire church we lunched here with our sister , following a recommendation by a friend. After a few days of record breaking high temperatures it was a relief to be seated outside in the shaded terrace. However we...hadn't planned on the traffic noise which was intrusiveve. the meal was reasonably priced we chose the 17€ menu. the entre of parfait de legumes provenceauc with a roule de rai was delicious with stunning flavours, my brochettes was a little underdone for my liking and the nectarines in a lavender soup although wonderful flavours, the nectarines were not ripe enough, so disappointingMore

We were met by Monsieur with a stern look (we were a bit early) - but this was replaced a few minutes later by a warm smile when he sat us in the wisteria-covered pergola. The meal was very good - lots of varied, interesting...flavours and good presentation, and an excellent glass of rose (sadly, just the one glass each - driving!) Service was efficient and very friendly. A good restaurant in a pretty setting provided a lovely evening.More

There seemed to be 2 parts to this hotel restaurant - the more expensive table cloth part - & I guess, the routine hotel restaurant - not sure what that part was - didn’t explore. We were being treated by my client in the posh...part. There was a varied menu a la carte & a selection of increasingly expensive set menus. My colleagues seemed to really enjoy it - just a bit fussy for my liking - (rich) high cuisine. Don’t get me wrong - it was good - just fussy. Also forgettable - can’t remember what I had - so not very helpful. So if you are on a budget - don’t go for this part of the restaurant - maybe the other side might have been better for my taste - didn’t look at it, if it even existed.More

We have lived in this area for 18 months and although we know of several excellent restaurants, they are generally British, serving good quality British food in either a British or French style. This evening we visited L'Argentière just outside the centre of Melle on...the Route de Niort and had an excellent French dinner in very comfortable surroundings with perfect service. We found several menus including an 'A la Carte' option. We chose the 'Saint Savinien' menu which together with a couple of Ricards before, an excellent bottle of Sancerre blanc with and two coffees afterwards came to less than 120€: Not somewhere to dine every night perhaps, (unless you've just won the lottery), but for a special occasion an excellent find and one to which we shall return!More

We ate here for the first time in two years. The food is consistently a very high standard. The ambience is calm without being too formal. It’s a proper restaurant with friendly and helpful expert staff. The food is creative and great value. Simply the...best restaurant in the Melle region.More

With friends having moved near to Melle, they are trying out restaurants in their new area and we were lucky enough to tag along for this lunch. Very lucky. We all had the menu St Hilaire at 39.50€. Choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and...2 desserts. Delicious mis en bouche ( vegetable tien with a moist slice of mackerel). My starter was diced smoked salmon with gambas and a lemony warm vegetable broth with light lemon foam. Main course was Tornedos of duck on delicate julienne vegetables and potato Anna. Followed by an excellent cheese cart. Dessert was a sublime lemon mousse with strawberries, raspberries, light meringue and a cherry coulis. Good coffee rounded off the meal. Not cheap but very good value for money. We sat on the terrace under a Wisteria clad arbour. It is just off the main road but traffic noise was just in the background but after a while you don't even notice it. Good courteous service with just the right amount of time to "rest" between courses. Lunch took us 2 and a half hours which was perfect. Thoroughly recommend They are also caterers for anyone wanting excellent food for a special occasion.More

Just outside of Melle (1.7km) this is a gem. Modern, fairly bland blocks form the guest accomodation with loads of free parking. We paid a bit extra (not masses) for a bigger room. This was effectively a suite. Spotlessly clean and simply but well furnished....Lovely shower room. (Towel rail would have been nice). The rooms were arranged around a little square garden. Reception very friendly and efficient. See also my review of their restaurant (highlight of our trip)More

It was my birthday and my wife took me to a restaurant we had not been to before. We were both very pleased with the lunch time meal, you had the choice of plat du jour or a la carte. We chose a la carte...and had very nice deer, veal & beef. Freshly cooked desserts, we will come back here again.More

All four of us had the 38e set menu of four courses from a choice of four and a la carte. Extremely well presented and delicious throughout. Both starters of scallops in a pumpkin soup and the home-made foie gras were excellent. Three of us...had the venison as main courses ; the best cooked and tasting we had ever had. The remaining person had the beef and veal equally perfect. Good to then see a cheese 'chariot' with a choice of soft hard and several local goats cheeses.Desserts were imaginative. With two bottles of wine 250e for four for the quality was not unreasonably as demonstrated by the number of people eating. First class service. Highly recommended if you want something a bit different from the usual lunch fare.More
