We found this great street of restaurants with a fun atmosphere. We wanted to sit down and have a beer. This place had a few empty seats (4 of us) so we asked if we could sit there. The lady shoo'd us away but she was clearly standing there to invite customers in. I will also note: She was Chinese... More

We found this place at the end of a road - staff were friendly and helpful. This seems to be genuine japanese food lots of locals were there too. It seems to be a family run business that are very proud of their trip advisor stickers :) Very good food! Very good beer! Very good service.

My Japanese friends took me to eat here and gave me this tip: if you want to find best food, just follow the locals. I found it very true. At this place, 99% of guests are locals. On that day only another guest and I were foreigners. The food was stunning! You must try the beef stew, it’s incredible! Cheap... More

Stumbled upon this place Taisyu Sakaba Daikatsu while stroling the neighbourhood west of the Sensoji Temple in Asakusa. This small street restaurant & bar was packed with locals at 17:00 hours, always a very good sign. The place is informal and cheerful, run by an elderly couple. The specialty of the house is a beef stew called "Daikatsu". I had... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
