This tempura restaurant has been opened for more than 100 years, located near the entrance of Asakusa temple. Price is reasonable. This place was quite busy but our food was served quickly. If you like crispy tempura, order set menu, don't order tempura-don. Tempura don (rice blow with tempura on top)... We were really hungry and this was across the street from our hotel. Touted as a 1837 old shop with long tradition, we thought it was a good choice. The food was costly. The tempura came in a covered bento box. As steam was trapped inside, it was all moist and soggy. No crispiness at all. Extremely oil. In fact,... More

Servers were very rude and food was overpriced for it's quality. Food itself is nothing special, can get same quality elsewhere. Will never come back again.

I ordered a bowl of tempura and it was noted in the menu that with sauce on top tempura would not be cripsy. So far it was good. The ingredients were fresh. Although it was soft I mostly enjoyed its taste and freshness. However it is very pricey because it may be located in the tourist area. It was easily... More

Have you ever had a meal so terrible that you feel like it insulted you? That was this meal for me. The tempura was thick and soggy, not the light and delicate coating that should be on it. There was a line out the door, usually a sign of deliciousness, except I didn’t take into account the location which was... More

Excellent location right next to Kaminarimon. Upstairs has three areas and we sat on the floor on the tatami in the Japanese section. We ate the Couple Banquet which was the perfect amount for lunch.

I ordered tendon(tempura bowl ; a bowl of rice topped with deep-fried prawns etc). Tempura was watery(not crisp) and I don't feel it was savory. It depends on one's preference, but I don't recommend this tempura to the person who expects crisp tempura.

We were brought to this place by our tour guide as this was our lunch place before our temple visit. Location is excellent and easy to find. Ambiance and size of the place is good. But what matters most is the taste of the food, and sadly it was a huge disappointment. Maybe because we are a big group they... More

I make a reservation for phone call (in japanese) but the responce is bad. I mean, staff hung up on me unilaterally when I still want to ask about the seats and the menu. She may be busy, but thats reaction is terrible. Tempra taste normal. Anyway, I hope please do not hung up till the guest are still talking!

We stopped in this restaurant for lunch. We had some good tempura fish, shrimp and vegetables. The coating was light and not greasy. The service was quick and friendly. The price was reasonable by Tokyo standards.

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
