A great experience. Very Japanese. The language gap, as do not speak Japanese, was hard, but we ordered one of three set dinners without understanding what we ordered. Course after course came into our private room. Much seafood including lobster and fugo (who knew). Drank lots of sake. Good time.

Traditional Kyoto restaurant, served by an extremely polite kimono dressed waitress, who explained all the dishes to us (in English) thoroughly. She also performed a tea making ceremony and once we were finished she walked us down to the lobby and pointed us in the direction for our walk home. We had our own private room with a view overlooking... More

I wanted a traditional japanese dinner and we had it all: the setting, the food, the service and the tea ceremony at the end. The setting was like in the movies: a seclusive room, with tatamis and japanese table seating . The food was incredible: refined, diverse and so different. The best part of it was having the young Yuri... More

Given that many dinners out in Tokyo are overpriced and underperforming, Minokichi is a standout. For $100 plus you get a great multicourse delicious meal that is beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The setting is high above Tokyo so there is a great view. The service is attentive yet unintrusive. They have some English skills and take credit cards. If I could... More

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
